Labor Day serves as a powerful reminder of the strength in unity and the ongoing fight for dignity. Let’s honor those who stood before us, and continue pushing for a future where every family is seen and protected. Because together, we can achieve anything! 🙌 #LaborDay #InspireChange

ICE has not paid a medical provider for detainee care since October 3, 2025. Hospitals and ambulance services are owed millions, and detainees are billed for care ICE says must be free. New from @sfchronicle.com: www.sfchronicle.com/politics/art...

No U.S. citizen should forced into separation from their spouse. But that's exactly what so many of AFU's members across the country are facing. Read the story of Jenni Rivera and her family, then share this with others. There are 1.4M people just like her who deserve to be heard.

The dashboard documents 289 deaths in ICE custody back to 2003. Mathew Miranda used it that evening to report that all six California deaths under this administration were at hospitals. @relevantresearch.bsky.social austinkocher.substack.com/p/a-practica...

FWIW this ain’t new. Under Biden sick folks got out of OADS really quick and then were released from the hospital , often without being processed
ICYMI: two groups sit outside every count of ICE detention deaths. People who had the same medical emergency and lived by chance, and people released or deported who died later. Watch or listen. @relevantresearch.bsky.social austinkocher.substack.com/p/a-practica...
"projects like this exist because the official source information for these deaths can come and go... I never trust that those web pages are going to be there when I need them again” I feel that. Data just disappears these days.

Adam Sawyer spent an hour asking me how our team built the ICE Detention Mortality Dashboard, and for once I was the one answering. Most of the hour went to decisions rather than features. @adamjst.bsky.social

Around 1.2 million have people have experienced ICE detention over the last 4 years. This is likely an undercount.
People like to complain about reporters, but, man, it's amazing when you get to work with a super on-the-ball reporter - which is exactly the experience I had with Grace Reader from KXAN. Straight to the point, great questions, so professional. Five stars, would recommend to a friend.
If there is a silver lining to Dolly's sad passing, it's that literally every store, bar, coffee shop, and house I've walked into this week is blasting Dolly's inspirational, oeuvre of music. And to be honest, this is how it always should have been.
Super valuable breakdown of the detained populations at facilities across the country from @adamjst.bsky.social --> below!
I used ICE case records data to calculate national, cumulative, and facility-by-facility detained population totals. This is an update of an analysis that I ran in April of this year. adamjsawyer.com/posts/ice-fa...
“As a veteran myself, I find the 50+ cases in the AP story to be a sign that our imm system is so broken & ICE is so out of control that not even people who put their lives on the line in uniform are protected,” immigration researcher Austin Kocher. americasvoicecnn.substack.com/p/ice-dishon...

“[Recruiters] basically told me that if you serve, and if you served honorably, you can help your parents,” said one service member. His mom was detained and deported last August.

The government makes public claims about who it is arresting, and the only way anyone checks those claims is if the arrest data is made public. Kudos to Deportation Data Project and to @crampell.bsky.social for connecting these numbers to a wider audience. Learn more: austinkocher.substack.com.
When Trump took office, most of the people ICE arrested were convicted criminals. Today, only about 1 in 5 are. austinkocher.substack.com/p/ices-summe...
Laws don't implement themselves, they are only as good as the people actually monitoring implementation -- and that's the responsibility of all of us. Kudos to @aurabogado.bsky.social for doing the legwork to keep the state accountable.
Illinois law says local officials can't help federal agents deport people. So how did so many residents end up on ICE's radar through information shared by local police, sheriffs, and prosecutors? I filed 394 FOIA requests to find out. (An @injusticewatch.org partnership with @theintercept.com!)
DHS Sec Mullin spent the summer telling the public that ICE is focusing on the "worst of the worst." He lied. Nearly *all* of the ICE summer surge was driven by people with absolutely zero criminal history on record. Not opinion, just the data. austinkocher.substack.com/p/ices-summe...
ICE’s Summer Enforcement Surge Driven by People with No Criminal History
The latest data from Deportation Data Project shows that ICE has never arrested so many people — and never so many people without any criminal history.
