No U.S. citizen should forced into separation from their spouse. But that's exactly what so many of AFU's members across the country are facing. Read the story of Jenni Rivera and her family, then share this with others. There are 1.4M people just like her who deserve to be heard.

I spoke with @austinkocher.com about the ICE Detention Mortality Dashboard this past Monday. In case you missed it, here's a recording of the conversation. substack.com/home/post/p-...

"projects like this exist because the official source information for these deaths can come and go... I never trust that those web pages are going to be there when I need them again” I feel that. Data just disappears these days.

ICYMI: two groups sit outside every count of ICE detention deaths. People who had the same medical emergency and lived by chance, and people released or deported who died later. Watch or listen. @relevantresearch.bsky.social austinkocher.substack.com/p/a-practica...

People like to complain about reporters, but, man, it's amazing when you get to work with a super on-the-ball reporter - which is exactly the experience I had with Grace Reader from KXAN. Straight to the point, great questions, so professional. Five stars, would recommend to a friend.

If there is a silver lining to Dolly's sad passing, it's that literally every store, bar, coffee shop, and house I've walked into this week is blasting Dolly's inspirational, oeuvre of music. And to be honest, this is how it always should have been.

The government makes public claims about who it is arresting, and the only way anyone checks those claims is if the arrest data is made public. Kudos to Deportation Data Project and to @crampell.bsky.social for connecting these numbers to a wider audience. Learn more: austinkocher.substack.com.

When Trump took office, most of the people ICE arrested were convicted criminals. Today, only about 1 in 5 are. austinkocher.substack.com/p/ices-summe...

DHS Sec Mullin spent the summer telling the public that ICE is focusing on the "worst of the worst." He lied. Nearly *all* of the ICE summer surge was driven by people with absolutely zero criminal history on record. Not opinion, just the data. austinkocher.substack.com/p/ices-summe...

ICE’s Summer Enforcement Surge Driven by People with No Criminal History

The latest data from Deportation Data Project shows that ICE has never arrested so many people — and never so many people without any criminal history.
