Hello BlueSky! Super excited that this work is out thanks to a great team work with Nélida Padilla-Garcia as lead author! We looked at what shaped the purging and fixation of TEs in populations across Arabidopsis lyrata species range. Short answer: the usual suspects, but also genomic imprinting!
Padilla-García, @plantreproevo.bsky.social et al. compared transposable elements in Arabidopsis lyrata, finding that demographic events and positive selection on epigenetically silenced TEs contributed to the spread of genomic imprinting. 🔗 doi.org/10.1093/molb... #evobio #epigenetics
