So today OpenAI released GPT-6 Astra, which it called "the world’s most intelligent and aligned model." Also in the system card, from third-party evaluator Apollo Research:

Wrote a big essay w/ @matteowong.bsky.social trying to put a finger on this moment in AI right now. The AI agent hacks, lack of control, the weirdening & slopping of culture. The feeling that the industry is speeding toward something it can’t even decide is good and lecturing that it is inevitable.

The phrase "may their memory be a blessing" can feel like something people just say. But every time somebody amazing dies I'm struck anew by the beauty of how a life well-lived and in service to others (which is itself a gift) transforms into yet another offering (often, a lesson in how to live)

not disagreeing w/ ben here. what i will say is that it's pretty common w/ rich ppl that they already have underlings writing their op-eds/comms for them. what'w noticeable is the post-shame ethos moving into AI use. true bummer that so many ppl in power don't seem to want to fight for human work

“I write everything using AI now." No you don't. Your little computer girlfriend summarizes the internet's thoughts for you. You went to the word ATM and gave the receipt to the Wall Street Journal.

“Generative AI, for all of its utility, is a homogenizing technology. Despite being trained on the glorious quirks of humankind’s creative canon, the models push our ersatz artistic output into a bland, muddled middle ground. The majority of content that I consumed on Fairground was…forgettable”

I watched 8 hours of Roku’s 24/7 AI slop channel (bc I hate myself) to try and figure out: Who on Earth is this for? www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...
