Long Lance is a character in my novel, The Three Sisters Bar and Hotel. And actually he was Indigenous. Just not quite as Indigenous as he said he was.
I started piecing this story together a number of years ago. Grey Owl and Chief Buffalo Child Long Lance were two famous "Pretendians." When a Hollywood movie was set in the north it all fell apart. One went on to fame. The other died in disgrace. charlieangus.substack.com/p/the-tragic...

Many, many of us can say the same.
Today, June 20, is World Refugee Day - a prompt to honour the courage of my grandmother and the resilience of my mother and aunts, who came to this country as refugees. I can never repay Canada for welcoming them, nor Alberta, for allowing them to flourish. #WorldRefugeeDay
The richest man owns X. The second and third richest men control Google. The fourth richest man owns The Washington Post. The seventh richest man owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. And now the sixth richest could soon take over both Paramount and Warner Bros. See the problem here?

While Albertans were distracted by separatist nonsense, you may have missed the fact that Danielle Smith has functionally stripped Albertans of their constitutional right to MAID, making us 2nd-class Canadians. Where was the outrage? Well, here’s mine. #ableg #abpoli #cdnpoli #SenateofCanada #MAID
Danielle Smith's medical assistance in dying law - Alberta Views
Unable to access medical assistance in dying in Canada, the 89-year-old travelled to Switzerland to obtain the care denied to her here.

This is a good reflective piece on Alberta, Canada, immigration-- and even mentions how our writers have helped us along as a nation. Worthwhile reading. albertaviews.ca/the-case-for...
The Case for Sticking Around - Alberta Views
I’m calling on us to do something un-Canadian: and stand up for the country we love—and reject the idea of a sovereign Alberta

Thank you Mum for sharing your love of books and reading, not just with me, but with the many members of your Doris Govier Fiction group in #Calgary. It's still running, though you are gone and much missed.
A year ago Alberta’s separatists were riding high. Now the western province’s “Wexiteers” are feeling downbeat. Register for free to read the story, and understand why

Katsushika Oi, historically overshadowed by her father Katsushika Hokusai, should be recognised as a pivotal figure in the history of Japanese art.

Thank you for your courage to publicly address abusive language.
Please contact Smith via form & phone: I do not agree with the government drawing their own electoral boundary map. I expect the Alberta government to accept the boundary changes as defined by Alberta's independent Boundaries Commission. #AbPoli #FireTheUCP #CdnPoli
