Zapping my earlier posts bc they’re hitting the Discover feed, so there’s way they don’t snowball into an attack on a person when what I want to do is talk about incentives and norms and systems.

Anyway, people in *all* of my work zones are posting generated content allll the time for actually thinky stuff and I would prefer disclosure, but that’s largely not happening, so I guess this is just how the world is now.

Like I think our school district's no-devices policy is just about ideal and also I remain 🫠🫠🫠 that they based it on Jonathan Haidt and ANDREW SULLIVAN quotations that all misrepresent the closest thing we have to good data (which is also pretty bad).

Somehow I need to come up with time to write about how "the science" on tech currently feels a lot like "the science" on nutrition.

After AtmosphereConf I was hit with the realization that I couldn't continue working in corporate tech where I had could not see the impact of my or the companies work on communities. I've started a new venture, Eskahlay, rooted in my nubian culture to build sustainable community technology.

TIL one of the first public uses of "infodemic" was in a (pre-Bezos) WaPo editorial about how people were way too worried about SARS(!) and fear of pandemics is worse than viruses bc it hurts industries would love a party committed to pantsing these people and shoving them into the (policy) garbage

we need to be rapidly & massively increasing public health funding. yet we have one party that is explicitly anti-public health, while the other thinks preventing funding cuts each year is good enough (which they still fail to do half the time). the pandemicene is here. something’s gotta change

the only way out is electing people who get it and will unapologetically fight for our future. and i’m not seeing a lot of that.

this is a super important point re: climate change and public health. and it gets ignored because everyone (and especially the people we elect) are used to kicking the can on the hard stuff. time's up

Because I'm not an ecofascist, I believe in letting the electorate decide between winning and losing, even with these stakes. But they need all the help that they can get, and we don't have infinite time to try little gambles on rebuilding trust that will take a decade to pay off. Gotta get it right
