If you loved an author’s book, tell them! They will completely ignore it because they’re fixated forever on the anonymous person who once gave them two stars on goodreads but it’s probably good for your karma

#Onthisday, precisely 490 years ago, Thomas More was tried for treason. Today, my biography of More is out in Canada and the US. "I ask only this of the great good God, that by His help I may be able to persevere in my right opinion until death." www.simonandschuster.com/books/Thomas...

Fulvia: The Woman Who Broke All the Rules in Ancient Rome is currently an Amazon Kindle monthly deal, priced at 99p as opposed to £20 for the newly published hardback. Why don't you give it a try and brace yourself for one of the most dynamic women of the Roman Republic (and Empire, frankly)?

Fulvia: The Woman Who Broke All the Rules in Ancient Rome is currently 99p on Kindle - that's a massive discount as the hardback is normally priced at £20. Why not give it a go, even if you think historical non-fiction isn't your thing - you never know, you might love it! shorturl.at/RKHSF

Read this whole thread. I have lost count of the number of times that I've said my institution needs to be proactive in preventing mental illhealth. HE leadership across the sector deems poor staff mental health acceptable collateral damage and I'm tired of it (have been for years). 1/

All this invites a whole lot of questions we frequently miss. Bear with me as this becomes a thread: 1. What do we mean by 'mental health provision'? Might seem obvious but varies wildly in and between institutions. Can span triaging to NHS services, preventing serious harms, or a wellbeing webinar

Today marks nine years since Jo Cox was assassinated by a far-right extremist, a terrible loss to those who knew and loved her and to politics. Zero lessons were learned though and the far-right continues to be pandered to. With more political assassinations in the US it all feels too familiar.

Shambolic. If teachers can use AI to mark, why can’t students use AI to write? And here we go: students not doing the work and teachers not doing the marking. Why don’t students not bother to go to school and teachers can stay at home? How about we all don’t get out of bed in the morning?????

I go back and forth between thinking the IDF wouldn't have the nerve to assassinate Greta Thunberg and the rest of the activists (incl. a French MEP!), and thinking of course they would, because why wouldn't they assume they'd get away with it just like they've gotten away with everything else?
