Excellent episode of @fortechssakepod.bsky.social that’s well worth a listen from a podcast well worth following. Particularly interesting as a parent of 13 year olds. Going to steal some points as my own when I chat to my wife about it later… podcasts.apple.com/ie/podcast/f...

Using the brain as a metaphor for AI is deeply unhelpful, and that includes illustrations. Because really what you're dealing with is the *absence* of what we conceive of as a brain: a computational system that can go through the motions but cannot apply critical thinking.
The UK has called its upcoming social media ban for under-16s ‘Australia-plus’. But looking at how it’s panned out down under, they might want to reconsider what they are building upon… More from @elaineburke.bsky.social and @earley.bsky.social in our latest episode: pod.fo/e/433f80

Elaine from @fortechssakepod.bsky.social showing what you learn from AI companies’ public statements when you actually *do the reading*. It begs the question why more tech journalists aren’t doing this.
Anthropic Institute, the research arm of Anthropic, published a report speculating on what it sees as potential future trends in AI development, and media literacy took an absolute beating from it. A thread: (1/22)
On Sat a well attended screening of doc GHOST IN THE MACHINE examined the roots of #AI offering audiences a critical look at the forces that have shaped the tech's development. Followed by an engaging Q&A w/ @abeba.blacksky.app @aial.ie & host @elaineburke.bsky.social @fortechssakepod.bsky.social
Elaine's been AI-splaining again. This time on RTÉ's Six One News covering the misreporting around Anthropic's latest audacious claims on its genAI's capabilities.
