I fucking love giving cold hard cash to cool artist to make illustrations. It’s such human experience. Talking over briefs, developing a style, pitching ideas and watching the WIP evolve. All while helping each other live? Sharing in human creativity is fucking great, gang.
🌱Elaine Lithgow - New Workers Union Era🌱
@elainelithgow.bsky.social
Scottish TTRPG Producer at Rowan Rook & Decard. Usurper to the throne of Spire and Heart. Designer, Writer, and RRD Workers Union Rep. She/her 🏳️🌈 We're all just telling each other stories as the light goes out. https://linktr.ee/elainelithgow
GM: “Were playing in the Warhammer 40k universe…” Player: “So… no Orc girlfriend?” GM: “Oh no, you have one now, but it’s spelled ‘Ork’“ Player: “Huh?” GM: “Oh, and she’s currently welding a machine gun to your arm cause, ‘My precious pink ‘umie needs more Dakka!’” Player: “…” GM: “Waaagh! 😘”
Bluesky posters: (cautiously) r/rpg...bad? audience: (approving chuckle) Bluesky posters: (gauging reaction) orc girlfriends...good? audience: (one lady yells) one poster grabbing the mic: r/rpg sucks because they won't let you have an orc girlfriend audience: (raucous, terrifying applause)
Don’t buy a dice tower. Instead, for maximum verisimilitude during combat, load the dice into a blunderbuss and fire them like grapeshot into your player’s stunned faces.
Pro TTRPG Tip: Don't buy a dice tower. Instead, put the dice in your mouth and vigorously shake your head.
Didn't get any emergency alert in Scotland, which I take to mean we can cut about chucking disposable BBQs into tall grass with nary a care in the world!
IMO some of the most interesting decisions in prerecorded APs are about how the editor treats above table conversation — what's preserved vs what's cut. It tells you so much about the intended audience and purpose of an AP. Is it entertainment? Educational? Profile boosting? It's all in the edit.
Been listening to this Salvage Union campaign while travelling and having a great time. As a designer I’m a sucker for APs that keep table talk about the system and its friction points in the audio, and this show *also* has fun plots, good characters, and compelling media recs. Give it a try!
It's weird that I haven't so much as glanced at Star Wars in over a decade, but the new Galactic Racer game has me like 👀💦 Junky salvaged vehicles? Burnout Paradise like races? Roguelike narrative campaigns? It's such a bizarre overlap of some of my rarest interests... in a Star Wars game? Crazy.
Some folk shitpost on socials believing it‘s a path to fame and fortune. Me? I do it for the love of the game bby! Oh? You followed thinking I’d post nowt but insightful game dev discussions? FOOLS! You’ll take my weird caterpillar posts and you’ll LIKE THEM! Lookit! Lookit it’s little hands go!
People vastly overestimate how important social media is in the TTRPG industry. Twitter (and now Bluesky) are essentially worthless when it comes to marketing, and the inverse is true, too: a bunch of people angry at you on social media means quite literally nothing in terms of your business.
reading this made me cry. i'm normal!!! labour protections are a beautiful act of human love & care!!!!! the establishment of any union is a boon for future unions. companies that can unionise doing so of their own volition helps set precedent & pressure for future efforts outside of themselves 🖤

"The production spec required for this absolutely terrifies me." — Elaine Lithgow I stand by what I said during playtests, and I've never been more excited to see such a batshit insane idea become a reality. Truly one for the book/production sickos out there.
"...this game is just too big. It's impractical. It's silly." — Quinns "I have no idea what people will make of this." — Kieron Gillen "Completely unpublishable." — [publisher name redacted] SEVEN PART PACT HAS 24 HOURS REMAINING www.kickstarter.com/projects/sjg...
“Can’t wait for the solar eclipse!” She said, somehow forgetting that she lives in Scotland.
Had a brief chat with Chase about the new RRD workers union this morning. (My co-rep Alex is sick, so just me for now.) Expect to hear more soon! But this gives some nice context to our reasonings and the process of reaching voluntary recognition. TLDR: Work with cool people, get cool prizes!

It will surprise absolutely nobody who has spoke to me in the last -checks notes- 10 years, I'm delighted do announce that I'm one of the elected representatives of the newly founded RRD workers union! 🌱
Workers at Rowan, Rook and Decard have secured the first union recognition agreement in the UK table top games industry! 🙌 iwgb.org.uk/en/post/tabl... Work in the UK games industry? Join our union today!
today's the final day to back seven part pact! we're $110k shy of a million dollars, which is goddamn crazy, and i am so blown away by everyone's incredible support www.kickstarter.com/projects/sjg...
Seven-Part Pact
A fantastical, ornate TTRPG from Possum Creek about the might and folly of powerful wizards bound by a venerable Pact.

Fluffy and crunchy? Meaningless gibberish based on a clunky metaphor that fundamentally fails to communicate rules complexity to a layperson. Bouba and kiki? Elegant, refined, no metaphor required. Implies you care about psychology, linguistics, and are great fun at parties.
Why is "crunchy" the universally agreed-upon (and overused) descriptor for a more complex or deeper board game? Chewy, tangy, even spicy all seem more apt.
Crowdfunding campaign over. Time to order celebratory takeaway and hibernate until my people need me once more. So like... 8 hours or so I guess.
You have just a few hours left to help assuage this sweet pangolin that everything will be ok in space.
Not to be a terrible bother but we would be awfully appreciative if you could check out Children of Time before it closes? If you wouldn't mind? No worries if not! bit.ly/3R1XMUu
Very cool garden denizen unlocked! An Elephant Hawkmoth caterpillar! We planted some of their favourite flowers a while back but this is the first one we’ve seen. They’re huuuge and turn a bright gorgeous pink and gold after pupating.

Yeeeears ago, a very well-meaning community member DMed me screenshots of a 4chan thread, of all things, where some randos were calling me slurs and decrying that I was one of the worst things to happen to Warhammer. And I’m over here like “Oh boy! Sure glad I didn’t miss this!”
If you haven't run over to the Children of Time kickstarter - where have you been?? There's ANIMALS in SPACE and you're RUNNING OUT OF TIME TO MEET THEM! bit.ly/3R1XMUu
Next week, another edition of TTRPGs We💛by European Creatives! @in-the-pan.bsky.social, @jcdarcy.bsky.social, and @michellicopter.bsky.social shout out the locally made games you need to check out. Are you a EUropean-based creative with a game you'd like us to showcase? Tell us about it!!
I'm a simple woman, I see a version of the Moonlight Greatsword and my neurons activate. A big shiny two-hander sword that shoots frikkin lasers? Sign me up! I love it so much I even snuck a direct homage into Broken Weave.
Name your fav sword.
Every day I struggle with the feminine urge to add exclamation marks to every e-mail!
hire me to be a dev editor on your project
Guys, I bloody love TTRPGs. I’ve played or ran in four different ongoing campaigns this week, each one a completely different system and group of players. (And none of them DnD!) Could actually have done five, but skipped one cause four is probably enough for one week…

My Therapist: The cult classic Disney movie Black Hole isn’t real and can’t hurt you. My Inner Child: You can’t know that… you haven’t seen it. Barely Anyone did… BUT I DID! I KNOW WHAT I SAW!
The PG Disney movie in which Anthony Perkins is frappéd by an 8-foot tall Killbot.
Crowdfunding: Destroying the work-life balance of your favourite creators since 2009. (For real, I think it's weird that as an industry we've just accepted that there will be whole months were we're just expected to be on call 24/7 just in case we -checks notes- "...Hit a Stretch Goal?")
Seeking referral to an ADHD specialist: “It sounds to me like you’re just a bit ditzy.” Seeking help with chronic blackout migraines: “So… why cant you work?” And the repeat classic: “Is there any chance you could be pregnant?” “No. I’m intersex AND in a lesbian relationship…” “…Are you sure?”
A question from Reddit that I'll answer here: "What's the most unhinged thing a doctor has said to you with a straight face?"
I’ve ever experienced such an improbable run of bad luck as in our Coriolis game. Three sessions deep and we fail so consistently any success feels like a critical. Tonight someone rolled an insanely stacked pool of 22 D6s… and got precisely ONE six. Superstition has taken root. Madness reigns.
