Table Troubles My brother is running an RPG campaign, and he gave me a small spoiler that, at some point, the party is going to have to travel through an orc kingdom. I wanted to ask if it would be allowed for me to have an orc girlfriend during the campaign. Is that something normal to do, or would it be kind of wrong? As I explained in the title, my brother is the game master. I was invited to play, but I’ve never played an RPG before. Honestly, I don’t even really know how this stuff works. Is it RPG, RP... something like that? I always thought this was nerdy stuff, but I decided to give it a try because my brother is doing it and it seems fun. I don’t want to interfere with the campaign or force my brother to change the story he planned. I just thought it would be really funny to try to get a girlfriend during the adventure, especially if she’s a muscular orc warrior. To be completely honest, I’ve always had a thing for muscular orc women. I can’t really explain it, I just think they’re fucking attractive. I've always liked muscular and dominant women, both in fiction and in real life, and he's always known about it and teased me about my taste, but it's just that typical sibling teasing. So I wanted to ask people who know more about RPGs, is this something that can normally happen in a campaign? Does the game master simply decide whether characters like that exist, or does it depend on the rules of the system? And would it be weird for me to start my very first RPG already wanting an orc girlfriend? I don’t want to turn my brother’s campaign into some kind of romantic fanfic or keep forcing this kind of thing. I just thought it would be a funny interaction to try during the adventure. IMO some of the most interesting decisions in prerecorded APs are about how the editor treats above table conversation — what's preserved vs what's cut. It tells you so much about the intended audience and purpose of an AP. Is it entertainment? Educational? Profile boosting? It's all in the edit.

Been listening to this Salvage Union campaign while travelling and having a great time. As a designer I’m a sucker for APs that keep table talk about the system and its friction points in the audio, and this show *also* has fun plots, good characters, and compelling media recs. Give it a try!

People vastly overestimate how important social media is in the TTRPG industry. Twitter (and now Bluesky) are essentially worthless when it comes to marketing, and the inverse is true, too: a bunch of people angry at you on social media means quite literally nothing in terms of your business.

Why is "crunchy" the universally agreed-upon (and overused) descriptor for a more complex or deeper board game? Chewy, tangy, even spicy all seem more apt.
