I ordered in what I thought was passable French but the server in the rural Quebec diner said, “it’s ok I can tell you’re English”. I didn’t want to say we’re from America because right now that is worse than being English speaking Canadian. We told her though and she asked if we are seeking refuge.

We saw the big movie about the big journey home after the big war. This viewer has sensitive ears and was glad she brought earplugs. It was fun but for all the noise and spectacle, she felt unmoved. She thinks she might’ve liked it more without the same sleek Hollywood actors who are in every film.

Remembering the year in my early 20s that I decided I was fed up with daylight saving time and refused to participate. I got rid of my watch and all my clocks and instituted Zoë Time. Ah, salad days (yes, you could eat salad then)
