AND ANOTHER THING. I bet a good adventure is way more likely to wean off 5e players than any system will. Systems need social proof and blah blah blah but an adventure is just what you do.

Right, right, I keep saying I want a brilliant GMing book but I don't know anything about brilliant books for other THINGS. Anyone got a book in something they know about that is THE place to go? Like, I rate Making Your Own Days by Kenneth Koch as being a robust intro to writing, for instance

I know we'd all be better off writing about GMing instead of minutely iterating on the sandbox adventure game, but 1. New game systems sell and 2. Talking about the real craft of games (i.e. running and playing them) is haaard. Better to leave it to youtubers with tight schedules and hungry sponsors

When we hire the ttrpg designer apprentice we desperatly need it might take a while to convince them that no, this isnt a wax on wax off stealth lesson about resilience, we really just have to wax a lot of cars. In fact it's mostly just waxing cars.
