Really loved this. Hard to say which part I admired most. Probably your description of the value of difference, and the sheer lunacy of fearing it for…reasons😒. Yes. Science won this argument long ago. The Law of Requisite Variety and the Gaia Hypothesis would like a word. Diversify or perish.💖🧬✨

The final insult is that difference itself is one of the great engines of complexity. Genetic variation, cultural variation, behavioral variation, intellectual variation, ecological variation, developmental variation: diversity is not a defect in the cosmic program. Diversity is what happens when reality refuses to manufacture identical snowflakes with identical brains and identical histories. Bigotry looks at that immense branching tree and demands a lawn. And then, with magnificent bureaucratic solemnity, proceeds to prune the living branches. That is the grotesque heart of it. Not merely hatred, Not merely ignorance. Reduction. Reduction of persons into categories Reduction of complexity into stereotype. Reduction of uncertainty into certainty. Reduction of individuality into group mythology. Reduction of living systems into filing cabinets. The antidote is not pretending differences do not exist. The antidote is refusing to smuggle moral worth into descriptive categories. Difference can be observed without being ranked. Patterns can be studied without becoming destinies. Statistics can inform without becoming stereotypes. History can explain without becoming inherited guilt. Identity can matter without becoming a prison. And every category deserves the same savage scientific question: What evidence justifies turning this category from a description into a judgment? Most bigotry begins trembling at that exact doorway.
