The Mayor of Bangor, Northern Ireland, Gillian McCollum, kindly welcomed Deputy Head of Mission Katharina Rauscher to explore the joint history of the twin towns of Bangor and Bregenz in Austria. Katharina was delighted to visit Bregenz House, the HQ of the local Coast Guard!

Alongside Ambassador Bernhard Wrabetz and Trade Commissioner Michael Müller, a delegation from Upper Austria’s regional government, OÖ Nachrichten and Volksbank Oberösterreich visited Manchester. Honoured to be welcomed by Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, and meet Honorary Consul Harald Löffler.

We were delighted to welcome Owen Hatherley to the embassy, who, in conversation with Professor Esther Leslie, presented his new book: “The Alienation Effect: How Central European Emigrés Transformed the British 20th Century”.

Our UK consulate is dedicated to ensuring that Austrian citizens, and residents in the UK who require our services, receive everything they need. This year, our consular section did just that 21,537 times! We’re ready to do it all over again in 2026!

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Eva Schloss, who had fled Austria from Nazi persecution, became a close friend and stepsister of Anne Frank and later co-founded the Anne Frank Trust in the UK. Our profound sympathies are with Eva's family and friends at this difficult time.

#70years after Austria’s accession to the #UN, one thing is clear: A rules-based international world order is crucial for our security. That is why we are running for a seat on the UN Security Council for 2027/2028. We must work together to ensure peace, freedom, and prosperity.
