Your irregular reminder ( and not picking on this paper in particular) that “causal effect” is a pleonasm. If it ain’t causal it ain’t an effect. By the same token, “non-causal effect” is an oxymoron.

The Herfindahl index is a measure of concentration -it has various names. It’s the sum of squared shares. I calculated it based on the share of the English premiership/1st division a club won, on a rolling 15 year window.
