Refugees are people who were forced to flee their homes. But that’s only part of their story. They are parents, students, artists, entrepreneurs, athletes, teachers, neighbours and friends. They are people with dreams, talents, ambitions and stories that go far beyond displacement.

65 years since the conclusion of the 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness, we are calling for renewed political commitment to ensure that everyone can enjoy the right to a nationality.

Everyone has the right to a nationality. Yet, more than 4.5 million people remain invisible in the eyes of the law, deprived of this fundamental right through no fault of their own, leaving them uncounted, unrecognized and forgotten.

Don’t forget Sudan. That’s the message Sudanese refugee students asked Goodwill Ambassador Wenyen Gabriel to carry with him. He promised to share it with the world. From fleeing violence to finding safety in South Sudan, these students are determined to keep learning despite the challenges.
