Altho Oxford planned a July 1 release date, Amazon is selling White Lies right now. Oh well. Watch for conversations over the next few months and for events this fall. We’ll launch the book Sept 11 at St. James, Austin, so please save the date for a conversation, celebration, and call to justice.
Could not be a better start to media season than to be interviewed about race, faith, and justice by my dear friend Jennifer Staton from KUT News at St. James Episcopal Church in East Austin. Thanks to her for her great questions, to my priest Eileen O’Brien, and to my community of faith!
There are two kinds of Christians in America now. I subscribe to @jamestalarico.bsky.social and his understanding of faith and practice. Let’s go. open.substack.com/pub/greggarr...

I’ll be talking about my book White Lies with John Fugelsang on Sirius XM late June. Please pre-order White Lies—preorders are so important—and if despite my urging you haven’t yet read Separation of Church and Hate, jump in. It’s essential reading. @academic.oup.com @johnfugelsang.bsky.social
Thanks to my friend, the Rev. Paul Brandeis Raushenbush, for this audio account of the "All Are Neighbors" counter rally to Turning Point USA at Baylor University. It was, as he agrees, one of the great public events of my life as professor and theologian. www.interfaithalliance.org/post/all-are...

It’s taken me a week, but I’m finally getting to revising my proposal for my book on the many attacks on diversity. I’ve written parts of many books here at Gladstone’s Library. It feels important to argue that we are one big beautiful human family, that we worship a God of love, not of whiteness.
Reading Rowan Williams' new book on solidarity put me in mind of some things from my new book White Lies, and of JD Vance and his hateful discourse about blood and soil. Which sounds more formidable in the original German. greggarrett.substack.com/p/solidarity-o… @bloomsburybooksuk.bsky.social

Our conversation was wide-ranging, and this discussion of Turning Point USA is certainly topical, but it is the tip of the iceberg.

What a crazy week. Just so you know: I’m leaning into the idea that the Pope is a more reliable interpreter of the teachings of Jesus than th President or Vice-President. Over at Substack: greggarrett.substack.com
My colleagues at @academic.oup.com and I are leaning into the forthcoming release and promotion of White Lies. Please reach out if yr community would benefit from a conversation about racial myths and white Christian nationalism. And do please consider pre-ordering! #books #writing
If American forces bomb Iranian power plants and bridges tomorrow, our leaders and military will commit war crimes and we’ll be rightly regarded as an outlaw nation. International law and conventions prohibit the targeting of civilian infrastructure to punish a nation. This is a stupid and evil war.
So grateful to talk with the hosts of "Preacher Handshake" about the ways preaching fits with my writing, teaching, and thirst for justice. I hope you might find this of interest. Happy Easter! open.substack.com/pub/greggarr...

MAGA evangelicals are daily losing their minds about @jamestalarico publicly proclaiming his faith, so they’re publicly proclaiming theirs. But if you’re praying to Jesus that Talarico be stopped by any means necessary, your Jesus is just Donald Trump’s mascot instead of the redeemer of the world.
We’re closing in on the finished publication of White Lies. This week I saw some of the endorsements, which always feels like proof that I actually wrote a book. Many thanks to Anthony G. Reddie,, Malcolm Foley, @robertpjones.bsky.social, and Gen. Ty Seidule. I am ready to start good trouble!

I did a long hike up into the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness this morning and paused at a waterfall to sing the Trisagion, an ancient prayer. The world is still so full of beauty. Holy Immortal One, have mercy upon us. And: Keep singing. The world needs to hear your voice. Here endeth the lesson.
