My great grandfather was a literal anchor baby born of migratory farm laborers from Québéc. Frequently back and forth across the border his whole early life, including bootlegging in the 30s. And yet his grandson, my father, is very anti immigration.

Illegal immigration is illegal, by definition, because successive governments *PANDERING TO RACIST OPINIONS BY PART OF THE ELECTORATE* made it so. The Home Office is institutionally racist, as are our media, and our politicians have been captured by racist ideology. /1

Same in the US. The way my family came to the US would be totally illegal today. (both sides just showed up. some of them had to take a TB test. no one applied for immigration permits beforehand).

I want to make sure everyone in the city is aware that SUNY Downstate operates a large and extremely skilled LGBTQ and gender affirming care clinic, and we have repeatedly reiterated our intention to go to jail before we stop.

BREAKING: The U.S. Department of Justice announced on Friday that it reached an “agreement” with Mount Sinai Health System in which it will “cease providing” gender-affirming medical care to minors and dedicate $2 million to providing care to those “suffering harmful consequences” of such care.

Listening to a man at the farmers market explain he’s out of eggs as “the ladies aren’t producing due to heat stress”— and another poultry vendor says he’s out, as he can’t keep them in this heat. Climate change is all around. We just have to open our eyes to see how it’s affecting our daily lives.
