Contrary to politicians & media reports, there's been a continuous ongoing narrative that there are 859 #Bessborough children that haven't been found. If we're going to pursue remembering these infants, we need to be factual. It is in fact, 858. 65 children have been found. 🧵

[reposting with ALT-Text] The story of a mother who worked in #Bessborough, and didn’t leave until the day she died. This post was a long time coming. Read it here: danielloftus.substack.com/p/mabel
Found out that someone copied part of my tree and someone else’s and they’ve created this absolute mess of a tree where dates are all over the place, names are jumbled & Benjamin / Belinda Buttons everywhere. Not to mention this person downloaded a copy of a photo I put up on a blog post & didn’t…
I’m begging everyone currently alive to tell at least one other human being where you were born and what your mother’s maiden name is. Apparently this is a lot to ask. #Genealogy
And maybe learn the names of your grandparents while you’re at it. From the death certificates I see where adult children are informants, it’s clear many people don’t know their grandparents’ names.

Sacramento Archive help needed! I volunteer at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery in Carson, CA. There are records at the state archives in Sacramento that we need to see. 1800 pages/$450. Money we do not have. I am looking for someone to go to the archives in Sacramento to take pictures. #genealogy
Those pre-1880 US census records don't give relationship to head of household. There could be many different realistic scenarios...not just the ones shown here. #genealogy
I've been out of the loop in giving presentations. Part of me wants to try and do them again, but I want to try & present about things that have not been discussed, but I do fear that most of my presentations would be about more niche topics which might not be largely desired. I think my... [1/2]
Question about UK #Genealogy: Where would a Register's Office normally be located? Would they be in Town Hall in a small town? I'm trying to locate where the one in Llandovery would have been located in the 1870s.
🧵1/4 I was born in #Bessboro a #MotherandBabyHome in the 70’s. I am a direct survivor of these cruel ‘homes’. I am also a survivor of #CSA as I was adopted by a woman who had a #paedophile father. My grandfather was a ‘pillar of the community’, to me he was pure evil!
3/4 I survived #Bessboro, the missing babies didn’t! I sometimes wish I didn’t survive, I struggle with my past every day but I survived. I want an #IndependentInvestigation of the remaining grounds, a CPO will delay this for years, denying the missing babies their #Justice
4/4 Locating the missing babies must be paramount in any discussions with the Government. To lose sight of this is wrong, self serving & something I cannot & will not support. Do not let the voices who shout the loudest control the narrative of #Bessboro

99 have been located so far, but the number of people who have behaved with glee finding out they were coffined burials like this is a gotcha that proved their ‘point’ while also ignoring that there were 99 children buried underneath a literal road never fails to surprise me. #MotherandBabyHomes

It feels really surreal to see this recorded officially, but it happened. 🥲 It’s never too late to rectify something, but it shouldn’t have had to take so long to do it.

On this day in 2022, I started @projectinfant.ie, it's come on leaps and bounds from when it first began. On the website itself it's been a little quiet, but behind the scenes there is plenty going on and will eventually upload! Thank you to those who have supported me along the way! ❤️ #Genealogy
Evening #GenHour! I've remembered what day of the week it is again... 😂 Hope you're all making plenty of discoveries!

Ideas appreciated. Looking on Find a Grave, I saw a name that I recognised in a cemetery in Cork City, who would turn out to be a victim of the Air India Flight 182 Crash off the Irish Coast in 1985. I wanted to make Find a Grave memorials for those who don't have them... [1/2]
