On Wednesday we hosted our Missouri Monthly Meet-up. First, we heard from @kcbusriders.bsky.social, then Rep. Pattie Mansur and Jessica Ann from the Missouri Budget Project gave a clear overview of Amendments 4 & 5. Thank you to all our organizers, speakers, and attendees!
A county-wide funding source would stabilize our current service and put service back in other parts of Jackson County. Make YOUR voice heard at one of three public meetings!
A county-wide sales tax could provide tens of millions of dollars each year for public transportation, potentially reversing the yearslong trend of Kansas City riders losing bus routes. Jackson County legislators want to hear what residents need before placing the tax on the ballot.
We're almost to 100 emails in just 3 hours! Keep sharing, let's make ourselves impossible to ignore. Our voices are stronger together 💪

An Ivahnhoe neighborhood leader says KCATA’s cashless bus fares make it harder for people to get around because they may not have smartphones or bank accounts.

Kansas City, the smallest World Cup host city, had such an insufficient public transit system to host the tournament that it had to build a a new, secondary transit system just to get fans where they need to go. Except that will disappear when the crowds leave.
This is proceeding as planned! See you at E 11th St and Grand Blvd TODAY at 5:30 PM
💥 As drastic service cuts loom on the horizon, RideKC fares are returning on June 1st of this year. As the Kansas City Bus Riders Union, we believe that none of our neighbors should be left stranded just because they can’t pay to get on the bus. 🚍 🧵⤵️

The KCATA approved its contract with the city of KCMO on Thursday, solidifying devastating cuts to essential bus routes. This transit funding “death spiral” is all too familiar to us as bus riders. How can we prevent this going forward? 🧵⤵️
After the World Cup, Kansas Citians relying on public transportation will find it even harder to catch a ride to work. Inadequate regional funding is forcing the KCATA to slash routes in September.

Thanks to your efforts, we sent hundreds of emails to city council and secured an additional $6 million in funding for buses! While we are thrilled that this money will prevent cuts, it doesn’t fill the entire funding gap that would allow KCATA to maintain full service.
URGENT UPDATE: One-third of KC bus routes are at risk of being cut. We need you to send an email to city council asking them to pass Councilman Bunch's amendment to allocate an additional $6M to the KCATA. bit.ly/kcmofundbuses
