Imagine being talented and beautiful and rich and famous and still the most noteworthy thing about you is how good a person you are.
Genuinely scary that people now say stuff about race the BNP would never have dared say, and the media carry sentiment that would have been rejected as totally out of bounds in the 1990s. These are the fruits of sheer hatred, directed by politicians and 'commentators'. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Just to be clear this isn’t an anti-Norfolk comment - it’s more that somewhere I’ve felt relatively safe and at home has a different vibe (in my experience) at the moment and I’m worried about it.
I come to Norfolk each year to visit family (it’s where I’m ‘from’). This year feels very different - young men in pub tell me I’m insane to think Reform are a bad idea, and that it’s ‘only the illegals’ they’ve a problem with (it’s not). My nephew (from Dereham) being told to ‘go back to Nigeria’ 😔

How do phosphorylation and palmitoylation talk to each other? 🤔 Our new preprint identifies #phosphorylation of Kv4.3 as a priming event that promotes channel #palmitoylation and shapes channel activity. A fascinating example of PTM cross-talk in the heart. ❤️⚡ doi.org/10.64898/202...
A phosphorylation‑dependent mechanism controls splice variant-specific S‑palmitoylation of cardiac Kv4.3
S-palmitoylation modulates the activity of many cardiac ion channels, yet the upstream signals that control this post-translational modification (PTM) are poorly defined. Here we identify a phosphoryl...

For my 30th birthday, my lab members bought me a copy of The God Delusion. I found it (the book) sexist, patronising, and other (then) unfashionable things. For my 50th, my lab members bought me champagne and a super cute necklace. I consider this excellent progress!
The House of Commons Education Committee is out today with a report on Higher Education... I'm quoted four times! There's a lot of good meat in there, even if I think the recommendations don't meet the case. But the policy disaster is very clear. (1/2) committees.parliament.uk/work/9012/hi...

A no from BBSRC with nothing but positive feedback after excellent reviews. Strong prelim data, excellent rebuttal, excellent application. But no funding. Time to consider moving to a country that takes science funding seriously? So disappointed 😔

So the Epstein scandal is about politics? Silly me for thinking it’s about the mass abuse of women and girls | Marina Hyde
Obsessing over individual players and political chaos leaves less time to focus on the misogyny. And that’s for the best, isn’t it guys, says Guardian columnist Marina Hyde
