Picked up Jen Williams' YA debut to see how it was different from her other, wonderful works, and it just shows she's a brilliant writer at anything, frankly. Maybe just a little softened compared to other tales, but frankly I can live with that these days, and otherwise has all her best qualities.👍

When I was writing Assembly book 5, I put in a chapter that was basically just chunks of exposition knowing I would have to change it all when it came to editing. Apparently now is that time, and it feels very unfair that I have to deal with the consequences of my own actions.

Then there's luck. I lucked out that a small San Francisco press liked The Windup Girl when every major publisher rejected it. I lucked into a perfect cover. At Montreal Worldcon everyone's else's books got trapped in customs, but TWG printed in Canada and was available. Windup Girl sold 100s.
