Watched Tombstone (1993) dir. by George P. Cosmatos, starring a whole shit load of people. Probably the most classic relatively “modern” Western. Pretty typical story, but a good one. Val Kilmer was incredible, but so was Kurt Russell, one of my favs. Good gunfights too
Watched Le Cercle Rouge, directed by Jean-Pierre Melville from 1970 Good movie! Really solid heist movie. Nothing spectacular but just enjoyable all around. Quite sparse in terms of dialogue, similar to Melville’s Le Samourai, which I appreciate
Watched Michael Mann’s Manhunter - the first Hannibal Lecter novel adaptation - starring Will Graham It was good! It was weird seeing Hannibal played by not Anthony Hopkins, but Brian Cox was great. A very tense thriller. Great aesthetics of course Biggest complain was the tonally jarring ending

I watched Hana-bi (1997) recently, directed by and starring Takeshi Kitano. It was quite good, a large improvement over his movie Violent Cop. Less nihilistically brutal, more melancholic (but still brutal at times). Yet also sweet. A really complex film

Sometimes it happens naturally, but I swear most of the time I return to discover I left off in the middle of a sentence, staring down a semi-colon that trails off into the abyss
