Seasonally migrating zooplankton strongly enhance Southern Ocean carbon sequestration
High-latitude zooplankton can sequester millions of tons of carbon due to their seasonal migration from the surface ocean to depth, and their respiration and mortality during overwintering. This seas...

Wind turbines affect local wind regime, esp. downwind from them. How that affects marine ecosystems, through wind-related features like upwelling, is something we are still learning. But aspects like surface primary productivity seem to be affected. 🧪🌊 Link: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

🐋 “Fishermen, hunters and researchers gathered at the Alaska Marine Science Symposium in Anchorage in January to discuss how several fish species and marine animals are changing their migration patterns in the warming climate.”
Scientists witnessed a ‘Humpback Palooza’ in the Arctic. Local hunters worry about what that could mean for subsistence.
In recent years, researchers have documented salmon surviving in North Slope rivers, bowhead whales expanding their foraging grounds and humpbacks moving into the Arctic.

Hi all- I’ve just moved over to blue sky - hoping to re-connect with colleagues here.
This still makes me chuckle and that is exactly what makes bluesky great. Keep it going, friends. 😂👍
We have contacted the school's dean to dismiss the person responsible for the postings, along with the faculty members they were discussing, so that none of us has to hear about them again. 🙃 But seriously, I've been told that this shouldn't happen again.
