Day 6 of arcade games that were better on the NES. Today's game is Punch-Out. Why is it better? The NES port refined the formula into a more puzzle-like/rhythm boxing experience with better character designs (Little Mac), and new opponents.

Day 3 of arcades ports on the Apple II: Pac-Man The port of Pac-Man for the Apple moves a little slower than the arcade version, and it lacks the sound effects that the C64 and Atari 400/800, but still destroys the Atari 2600 port 😅

Day 5 of arcade games that were better on the NES. Today's game is Rygar. Why is it better? The NES version transforms the game into an open-world-style adventure with exploration, leveling, and item collection. The arcade original is a more straightforward linear side-scroller

Day 2 of arcades ports on the Apple II: Pooyan I think this is the first arcade port I played on the Apple II back in elementary or Jr. High, and at the time I didn't know it was an arcade port. Some days I'd get the machine with a color screen and others would be green or amber

I don't often see much love for the Apple II in the Retro Gaming space, so I thought I'd start a new daily series showcasing arcade ports that hit the Apple II Day 1 of arcades ports on the Apple II: Mario Bros. This is a fun port of the game.

Day 4 of arcade games that were better on the NES. Today's game is Ninja Gaiden. Why it's better: The arcade game was a very run of the mill beat'em up and Tecmo took the NES port and turned it into side-scrolling action-platformer with strong storytelling! The music rocks too!

I hope you're all having a wonderful Sunday. I've started my afternoon with some lemonade and Road Rash for the 3DO. I remember seeing this for the first time at a game shop called Software Ect. From that moment on I lusted for a 3DO. I finally got one back in 2020.

Day 3 of arcade games that were better on the NES. Today's game is P.O.W. This game is kind of like Double Dragon, but in a POW setting. Why it's better: distinct bosses (instead of just enemy waves). power-ups/rooms. grenades for vehicle fights. Added content.

Day 2 of arcade games that were better on the NES. Today's game is Bionic Commando. Why the NES port is better: The game is a substantial redesign with a map, branching paths. Upgrades/EXP. More responsive grappling. Better Music. You get to kill Mecha Hitler. Need I say more?

I'm playing a "new" game for me. It's Laser Ants for the Atari 800. You control some kind of a ship that needs to enter a ants nest and destroy x number of power capsules to move on to the next level. It's super challenging. Breath on the walls wrong and it's bye bye ship!

I'm having a blast with Micro Mages for the NES. It was released in 2019.They had a physical cartridge for it but it has sold out. You can also get it on Steam, Itch.io, and for the PlayStation 4/5. PC versions come with the ROM too.I'm using the ROM via emulation

I love that we live in a time where there are so many home-brew games being made for old hardware. I've been enjoying Asteroids - VE (Vector Edition) for the Atari 7800 this afternoon. It plays really well, and has the challenge set just right.

This is Sib, one of the 5 or so strays I feed, and take to the Vet when needed. She's the first stray that showed up about 6 months ago. She was very leery of me for the first month, and now sleeps on my back steps. She LOVEs my dog Henry.

Pac-Man made eating dots popular, and many games in the early 80s tried to copy elements of its gameplay. Crystal Castles is one of those games. I first played it on an Atari 2600 back around '84-'85. This is a pretty good port for a machine with 128 bytes of RAM.

I have an entire office setup at home with higher end machines, and a bunch of old consoles, hardware, and game collections. That said I spend most of my game and compute time on a very low end 7 year old laptop in my living room chair.
