#Cubs preferred to switch from Reid Detmers to Braxton Garrett to retain Owen Ayers, even if it meant giving up Moisés Ballesteros to get Ryan Zeferjahn. Big bet on the trend arrows (up for Ayers; down for Ballesteros). But a bigger bet on Zeferjahn himself. northsidebaseball.com/news-rumors/...

POWER ARM: Cubs Acquire Ryan Zeferjahn in Trade with Angels

The Cubs have struck again, rounding out their suddenly much deeper pitching staff with the addition of hard-throwing, controllable reliever Ryan Zeferjahn of the Angels.

Well, shoot, y'all. Messed this up pretty good. As has now become clear via your more traditional reports: #Cubs are acquiring Braxton Garrett from #Marlins, NOT Reid Detmers from #Angels. I can only guess at what misled Michael Cerami, but for my own part, I misunderstood a source's message.

The Giants will take half the money owed to Robbie Ray, including half the $1 million assignment bonus, in the trade to San Diego. They get Joniel Hernandez, a 17 year old SS from Cuba who got a $1.4 million bonus in Jan. and RHP Miguel Mendez, who was a top-5 prospect in SD system.

Reminder that there's always a flurry of deals right at the deadline hour, and some are even approved by the league/announced after the deadline passes. Hold your fire.

I took the FanGraphs prospect grades and value ratings and put them in graphical form. Makes it easier to see which orgs have quality or quantity of prospects. Orioles vs Seattle is interesting, right in the middle. I'd rather have the fewer but better prospects in the Mariner system, fwiw.

The Orioles farm system isn't even good. At FG, only five guys at 45+ or 50 grade. Ranked middle of the pack, but that's on the strength of a TON of 35+ and 40 grade guys. Maybe I've underrated that level, but meh.
