No dog owners, we don’t find it amusing when we come across poo bags hanging from trees. And neither do these awesome kids from Liff Primary School…! 🦸🦸♀️🎖️🏆🐶🌷☘️🌎
💩 One of life's great mysteries is why some people bag dog poo, but then abandon it rather than bin it. 🤔 These legends from Liff Primary School did a litter-pick at our Backmuir Wood near Dundee, and found most of the rubbish was bagged poo. 🧵 1/3

No #ClimbingPlants here but the #Shetland Northern Marsh orchids are still standing tall, as is the Cottongrass and Ragged Robin, and the wild thyme and Yarrow are out #WildflowerHour @wildflowerhour.bsky.social @bsbibotany.bsky.social @bsbiscotland.bsky.social @ukorchids.bsky.social
A fave wild flower, Wood Vetch (Ervilia sylvatica). Ancient woodland indicator. Better recording since 60s shows losses across much of its range & local declines. I've seen it in two @scotwildlife.bsky.social reserves. There are other locations in Lothians. @bsbiscotland.bsky.social

Juncus balticus Baltic Rush found with @ghostofdatura.bsky.social in lovely fen beside a loch in Caithness. A tidy 76-year refind on the @bsbibotany.bsky.social Scotland recording week :) #wildflowerhour
Botany takes you to some wild places! #Intrepid High on the north face of Beinn Lair, Wester Ross, with a newly discovered population of Alpine Lady-fern below and nothing but wilderness beyond... 😍
Nordic Moonwort Botrychium nordicum in lovely lycophyte-rich montane heath in Glen Shee. Frilly divisions, and a shorter stem than lunaria, and GB plants tend to have a lax fertile frond too.
21/6/26 #Highland - Some lovely examples of Heath Fragrant #Orchid (Gymnadenia borealis) on show in the submontane meadows of the Scottish uplands. Note the shape of the flowers, with the labella greater in length than width and shorter, acute-tipped sepals #wildflowerhour @bsbibotany.bsky.social
🌺 Invasive Rhododendron ponticum is choking Scotland’s native woodlands & costing taxpayers millions. 🌱 But it’s still sold in garden centres & used as rootstock. ☣️ We want a ban. Send pics to scottishcampaigns@woodlandtrust.org.uk if you see it on sale. 🙏 #MairTreesPlease #INNSweek #BePlantWise
21/6/26 #Highland - It was great to meet up with a good friend of mine and visit some of the fine sites South of Inverness, where some very fine plants grow - such as Moneses uniflora, Single-Flowered Wintergreen #wildflowerhour
21/6/26 #Highland - I was just saying how unusual that intergeneric hybrids are, so here's another one - and that's reflective of the rich diversity of the site it was found at. x Dactylodenia varia a hybrid between Heath Fragrant and Northern Marsh #Orchids #wildflowerhour @bsbiscotland.bsky.social
21/6/26 #Highland - A Lesser Butterfly (Platanthera bifolia) and Small White #Orchid (Pseudorchis albida) growing side by side in a submontane meadow; such a fine sight is always going to be up there with my favourite moments of the year so far #wildflowerhour @bsbiscotland.bsky.social

21/6/26 #Highland - #Orchid hybrids aren't particularly unusual, especially among some genera. However, hybrids between genera are rather special - such as this fine example of x Dactylodenia evansii between Heath Fragrant and Heath Spotted #Orchids #wildflowerhour @bsbiscotland.bsky.social
Heath fragrant-orchid and alpine bistort, two of the more attractive plants recorded in the grassland above the Den of Pitlurg, Huntly, yesterday
Chuffed to spot these Two-flowered Rush (Juncus biglumis) in flower - still little more than an inch high! High altitude flush, Beinn Ghlas, Lawers range
This ridiculously colourful boulder is plastered in two of my favourite mountain plants - Moss Campion (pink) and Cyphel (green). Ben Lawers range. Wonderful!
