Probably a coincidence… but just turned on Sportsnet+ and they’d changed the Ted Lasso ad I saw about 25 times this weekend and spend the first paragraphs complaining about here.
Ted Lasso’s return is about getting the gang back together... and everything else is paint by numbers. This moment in professional women’s sports deserved better. www.theglobeandmail.com/culture/film...
Ah, Carney was using "interesting" like a critic pigeon-holed by a member of the public while coming out of a play.
"The mooted ideas for Billy Bishop are 'interesting' in a broader context," Carney says, in trying to explain why he'd previously called the expansion proposal "interesting."
Oh, I like the reference to Pluribus in this review. Alice, the slightly bristly new assistant coach, is like Carol Sturka in a show where everyone has had their brain Lasso-ed.
if hating on ted lasso, the tv equivalent of widdle baby kitten with big wet anime eyes, makes me a bad person, then i am a bad person sorry
Another shot of that scene. Impossible to overstate how impressed my Mom was to see me sitting on TV beside Lloyd Robertson at the newsdesk. #RIPLloydRobertson
Sitting at the CTV Newsdesk beside Lloyd Robertson and doing our silly little scene together was one of the finest and most surreal honours of my life. He was our first 'celeb cameo' on Corner Gas, and once he'd done it we were legitimized. Because no one was more legit than him. #RIPLloydRobertson
Happy to hear from a mom reader who mutes the TV every time the Ted Lasso ad that begins with that guy saying: "Too bad you're coaching a bunch of girls" comes on while she's watching with her kid. Can't imagine an ad with a "joke" that's just a racist comment, shrugged off, on constant repeat.

A story of cause and effect: Last November, Ontario banned cities from using speed safety cameras to issue tickets. Reckless speeding immediately surged in Toronto, Ottawa, Guelph, and cities throughout the province. A 🧵 about my latest in Bloomberg (gift link)

Glad to see the NYT (unlike certain politicians I could name) explaining the full context behind California's declining wine sales, rather than simply blaming Canada.
Sales Are So Low, California Wineries Are Burning Their Vineyards
The rise and fall of pinot noir symbolizes the larger struggles of the wine industry as younger generations turn to other beverages.

We've had three months of discourse now about the first three months of a new law. 🙄 New info: 50% who kept an accounts said platforms never them asked to verify their age. This is why eSafety is investigating possible non-compliance of Meta, Google, Snap and TikTok, govt just doubled fines.
Australia’s eSafety commissioner buried a report (released Friday afternoon) that shows the under 16 social media ban didn’t tangibly reduce teen social media use, and also resulted in parents tuning out of kids usage. We traded our privacy for no reason. theconversation.com/more-than-80...
I don't think people are ready for this kind of joke yet.
A sign ownership sees the Blue Jays as contenders again in the near future. This season has been a bit baffling given the components.
In Jose Soriano, the Blue Jays add a long-term rotation upgrade who sits 97 and induces a ton of ground balls. A significant move for a team that needed answers on the pitching side www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/...
Today we learn which publications will and which won't publish Big Pussy in a headline. That character's death was one of the most impactful in TV history because he was so soulfully portrayed by Vincent Pastore. So long Pastore, and thanks for all the fish. www.theglobeandmail.com/culture/film...

I've been in Stratford a couple times now for the World in a Weekend festival and it's such a lovely set-up for kids. Mostly free puppet shows and lots of crafting/play stations set up outdoors on banks of the river. Highly recommend for parents of 3-10! www.springworksfestival.ca/_files/ugd/f...
