Biologist with interest in comparative, developmental biology & live-imaging using annelids, in Jan Huisken Lab. Part of the Flamingo project: We design high-end, portable light-sheet microscopes and bring them to the biological sample in the field.
The final day of IPC15 was a fascinating insight into the world of EvoDevo & genomics. Two invited speakers Elaine Seaver and Toru Miura provided a backdrop for a series of fascinating talks.
Back from the International Polychaete Conference at the Senckenberg Museum in Frankfurt! A big thanks to the organisers and everyone who made #IPC15 such an enjoyable and inspiring meeting. I learned a lot about polychaete biodiversity. @etilic.bsky.social #annelids #polychaete

Happy to share our contribution to this new work led by @michalis-averof.bsky.social! @bekeloh.bsky.social and @metteh-thorsager.bsky.social tested membrane tags in the annelid Platynereis dumerilii — many reached the cell membrane, and several also label the developing nervous system in the larvae.
Finding molecular tags that localise fluorescent proteins to the cell membrane was the goal of our latest paper, now published in Development @dev-journal.bsky.social. The tags act as address labels, sending proteins to the cell membrane, where they highlight the shape and arrangement of cells. 2/9

These are the first asexual vertebrate species known to science go.nature.com/4s2N0dM
How an all-female fish species defies evolutionary expectations
Asexual reproduction should be an evolutionary dead end. A study of asexual fish shows that a genetic ‘copy and paste’ helps to overcome the predicted costs of asexuality.

The new version of TrackMate, the v8.1 has just been released. It builds upon the recent v8, linked below, and offers two main improvements 👇
Trackastra is part of the brand-new TrackMate v8. It is the first deep-learning-based ("AI") drop-in replacement for TrackMate's regular LAP-Track algorithm. Tracks out of the box for many types of datasets (bacteria, fluorescent nuclei, phase contrast cell culture etc), zero parameters to tune 🤖
