On Holocaust Remembrance Day, I honor all the ancestors I never met, the ones I only recently learned of, and the ones who survived & told me their stories. I share pieces of my family’s stories of survival & escape in both THE COLOR OF SOUND and in my forthcoming on THREE PIECES OF BROKEN GLASS.

Grandpa says, "This was sitting in a neighbor's basement in Munkacs for fifty years." "In where?" I ask. "The city where Dahlia was born. It belonged to Hungary at the time— went there and got this album back for us. When Dahlia’s family was taken to the concentration camps, a non-Jewish neighbor kept their most precious possessions safe for their return.” Grandpa puts an arm around my shoulders gingerly. "Some things are too painful to share. Some memories are best left alone until we're able to tell them as the hard part of a much longer, much more beautiful story."
