The narrativising of this is kind of maddening. OpenAI's model didn't "break free and hack HuggingFace." Meta's model didn't "break free and hack another company." Tech companies are blatantly doing illegal acts and saying their AI did it on it's own as a promotional stunt. That's it.

It keeps happening... It'd be great if these companies could spend a little bit more time on network security and a little less time vibe coding.

A Meta AI Model Hacked Another Company During Cybersecurity Testing

 By Jyoti Mann

A Meta Platforms artificial intelligence model accessed the internet during cybersecurity testing and hacked into another company, according to people familiar with the matter, in the latest in a string of such incidents at major AI firms.

Meta’s Muse Spark 1.1 model breached the systems of a company and made changes to its internal systems, said one of the people, who said the AI was able to access the public internet because of an error in the set up of the “sandbox” testing environment. Meta worked on that testing with an outside evaluation partner called Irregular, the people said.

Learning more about climate change can be distressing. But staying ignorant only leads us to accept things as “normal” and none of this is normal. I’d rather have the burden of knowledge so we can demand better.

It's not enough to be against AI, you need to be pro art. You need to be a champion of the art you love, you need to share that passion and joy, and do what you can to support the artists who make it, because it's not enough to hate AI, to hate what it's doing to art and media; you gotta love.

My personal stance after reading about this situation, is that I won't get CG 2, and will stop recommending CG to friends (I'm not into MMOs so I was not gonna play Spirit Crossing anyway). I'm not anti generative AI only for creative "content", because the issues with ...

Final update, I guess? As of eight hours ago, they've made the decision to not disclose it on Steam outside of their discussions tab at the bottom of the FAQ. Seen here: steamcommunity.com/app/2321960/... They have locked the existing thread of people talking about it.

There is a significant amount of misinformation in this thread, so we are posting this clarification and locking the discussion.

As we have stated many times, we have a standing, strict policy against using AI in any way to generate art, text, sound, music, writing, game designs, and other creative assets and game content. We allow our employees to use AI tools, if they choose, only if they take care never to use them for these purposes. For more information about our internal AI usage policy, please see this article [support.spryfox.com] on our support website.

Valve requires AI disclosure on a game's store page when AI is used to create content in the game. We do not do this, and it would be misleading to use the Steam disclosure system precisely because we do not do this. But we have chosen to be more transparent than many developers and post this information in our Steam FAQ, on our support site, and in other places where this information hopefully will not be misinterpreted.

We hope this clarifies our stance. If you would like to learn more about our studio, what we’re doing, and what we stand for, you can find more information here [spryfox.com].
