Look how cool! A person I'm acquainted with on Instagram does photography with antique equipment and he did a portrait of his cat using a camera made in 1926. www.instagram.com/glass_negati...

Hi! I’m Molly Hodgdon. I live in Vermont with my beautiful FIV+ cats Francie and Marcel. Banner photo by W. Eugene Smith. Profile pic is a postcard from my collection mailed 1908. Not a bot. Not selling anything. Just a keeper of forgotten cats.
Someone once told me that it's "classist" to advocate for people to have indoor cats because you need to buy them lots of expensive toys. Marcel has been playing with the discarded stem of a fresh green bean for 20 minutes. 🤷♀️
Cabinet card from my collection. It doesn’t really look like anyone was enjoying picture day.

Just a lovely face from long ago. Photo from my collection, no date/info.
"Also wondering how many people just published that photo with her story without questioning." All of them. 100% of them. That total atrophy of critical thinking skills is exactly why we're stuck in a massive misinformation crisis.
Am wondering if they are related. Maybe the family used the name Margaret for several generations. Also wondering how many people just published that photo with her story without questioning. It’s more mysteriously incomplete than fake. RIP Margaret & Margaret
Our cute friend Laguna, last kitten of the Final Fantasy colony, goes for his ear surgery first thing in the morning. If you’d like to help cover this costly procedure, you can donate at: linktr.ee/crits4cats
Those ears are in the “I hear you but I’m ignoring you” position. Photo from my collection, no date/info.
I was gone for TWO WHOLE HOURS so she desperately needed to recharge her snuggle batteries.
Because they want the cat to be able to go outside without getting eaten by coyotes or hit by cars.
I hate to be disagreeable, but why would anyone put a lead on a cat? Because they still see cats as human accessories, and not as sentient creatures with their own intrinsic value, and the same fundamental drive to live by their own leave as we do. Lift the veil. Be awed by their true beauty.
Photo from my collection, the back says “Gail and landlord’s cat”. No other info/date.
Yes, and since it IS used all over, AI image searches report it as fact. This is why I laugh and laugh and laugh when people use screenshots of AI answers as "proof" of anything.
It's astonishing that picture is widely used to represent Ms. Knight, all over the internet.
This is not cat related, but I discovered an odd bit of widespread history misinformation today. I saw a story about a very cool lady named Margaret E. Knight who was a brilliant inventor. The problem is that she was born in 1838 and this is the photo of her used in nearly every story I found.
We need to return to traditional masculinity, to the time when real men took their kitties for walkies so they could smell smells.

Posting this again because the terms "kill shelter" and "no-kill shelter" are still thrown around a lot! www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpaK...

damn I did not know that! The rescue where we got Lola and Willie sometimes has sphynx and the woman who runs the rescue (and has adopted some herself—she says people call them “skinfants” bc they’re so cuddly and needy) says they are a nightmare and that breeding them should be illegal
If someone really wants a Sphynx they turn up in rescues fairly often and there are networks of wonderful people who help to rehome them! People often buy them because they look cool but then don't want to keep up with all the maintenance and care they require and give them up for adoption.
I have a sphynx (he's a rescue) and i can say they require so much care. Its not just baths like a lot of people think. They are prone to so many problems. Like I love them as a breed, but also agree they should NOT be a breed.
Nobody has an inalienable right to own a cat. If someone has cat allergies they can try shots or other Rx interventions for themselves, not support the breeding of disabled animals. The breeding of Sphynxes is so unethical that it's banned in several countries. www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle...
Sphynx has lowest life expectancy of domestic cat breeds, research finds
The hairless cats live on average for just 6.8 years, while a Burmese could survive to be 14, according to research
theguardian.com
I get hairless cats for people with allergies, but I'm still...let's say not exactly convinced it's a solution which is fair to the cat. So many of the rest of the things we do with breeds are wholly indefensible. And I'm just as happy with rescues as I ever was with purebreds.

Somewhere out there is a cat breeder trying to figure out how to make "Jimothy" cats and we've unfortunately learned from Sphyxes and Munchkin cats that a lot of people would buy them.
