Were "bridge" and "middle 8" always synonymous? I always thought a bridge could refer to a middle 8 but was more commonly the bridge between the verse and chorus (what is now referred to as the "pre-chorus").

“Watching TV with the subtitles on” is something I struggle with because I see it as either an aid to accessibility or a way to formally examine a piece in a way slightly removed from its creation. But TV+subtitles isn’t like that for my kids, it’s just an assumed part of the text
