Warmly recommended. I taught an A level Depth Study on the Third Reich for years and I still learned a lot from reading this.

#BookSky - my summer reading is a bit different to a normal light breezy novel. It’s totally based on facts but reads like a novel, just like @jonathanfreedland.bsky.social previous one - The Escape Artist. It’s not morbid to read about what happened in Germany in the 30’s/40’s - it’s essential.

Finished "The Traitors Circle" by @jonathanfreedland.bsky.social. A great narrative history of informers and betrayal in Nazi Germany, written in incredible detail but never dry. Timely for today. It answers the question of how could "it" have happened, and how might it happen again.

The Founders always feared the emergence of an autocrat. Now, on its 250th anniversary, the US is under the thumb of an idiot Caesar. Everyone knows it’s a betrayal, which is why the celebrations are so muted.
