In mid-2025 Alex Spencer did an incredible preview of Big Walk for Edge, doomed to print purgatory. Been thinking about this vignette of Jake's hand-placing rocks ever since. As the slop wave intensifies, it's just a beautiful depiction of a game made by people who care (and have the time to care).

For the tour's conclusion, we've all gathered
at the central mountain's summit, arriving just as
the sun peeks over the horizon and bathes the
world in pink, syrupy light. Disseldorp is fiddling
with a handheld radio, seeking the perfect station
to complete the mood, while the rest of us pass
around a pair of binoculars and Strasser describes
placing every single rock on the island by hand,
working his way around clockwise. He points out
the areas already done, with an outstretched arm.
"I've gotten to the edge of this valley," he says.
"That's my big job, between now and release."

the energy costs are catastrophic. the companies you rent them from are destroying the world in multiple axes. they are addictive and cause damaging brain patterns. they destroy community and shared knowledge through isolation and independence.

the software that LLMs write is not software i want to run on my computer. the text LLMs generate is not text i want to read or write. the images LLMs generate are not images i want to see or make. the music LLMs generate is not music i want to listen to or write.

using LLMs violates so many of my morals that its hard to even begin with arguing about it. any one is more than enough to not consider it, that when i see ppl dismissing it all at once, its so overwhelming.

Needs some beeswax to do that. Where'd I leave that beeswax...? I can't. I need to get the beeswax. Everyone's waiting on that beeswax. Beeswax... come on, Oddy, think! Know I saw some beeswax somewhere... Surely I can find some beeswax. Need to find the beeswax first.

Sirens, huh...? If only there were a way I could listen to their song *without* walking into the sea... Hmmm, maybe I could listen to their song *without* walking into the sea... Maybe this rope could help... but how...? I want to listen to their song, but if I do, I'll walk into the sea...

rural facebook is fantastic right now btw. old timers organizing to stall data center construction in the county. hundreds of comments calling flock camera vandals heros. everyone hates AI and loves the post office

Making a period tracker yourself is a really amazing way to take over your digital agency!! I want to teach a workshop where we each make a simple securely hosted (or locally hosted) website (that doesn't rely on large hosting platforms) where you can easily go to and enter your data

Would you like to contribute an OBJECT to live in a WAREHOUSE GAME? I'm working on a parser fiction game where you play as a worker in the warehouse of the gods- sorting, storing, rearranging objects, meandering. I need so many objects! Maybe even: one of yours? docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

As Kels from @dfwsupportcommitt.bsky.social told me: "they’re being given extraordinary sentences for things that are supposed to be protected actions. Fireworks on the Fourth of July being called explosives and terrorism? Political literature is something worth taking 30 years of someone’s life?”

The Prairieland Sentences Are a National Emergency

A federal court has punished Texas ICE demonstrators with decades in prison. This is dark news, not just for them but for anyone who may want to register political dissent.
