New #WriterBeware blog post: Gen AI-driven Nigerian writing scams have arrived recently & spun up fast. Two new ones: book club impersonations (charge a "spot fee" for appearance) & fake private book review communities (reviewers are "tipped" w/ a minimum buy) writerbeware.blog/2025/09/19/r...
Return of the Nigerian Prince Redux: Beware Book Club and Book Review Scams - Writer Beware
A few weeks ago, I wrote about a rising and extremely prolific marketing scam that I’ve been able to trace back to operators in Nigeria. Using highly personalized (AI-generated) email solicitations th...

Hope to see some of my BlueSky #historians join the chat this evening!
Some of the crimes I've seen in Washington DC: — Beige sweater with beige chinos — Jacket sleeve tag left on — Tan shoes with navy suits — Giant Windsor knots (triple felony with the metal sports watch paired with dark suit and French cuffs)
From Watergate to Havana Syndrome—America’s trust is broken, and crime fiction knows it. My new blog post explores how detectives evolved from Marlowe to Gage in an age of surveillance, conspiracy, and rot. www.dalemnelson.com/post/from-wa... #crimefiction #noir #watergate

Pardon my language, but “completely and totally obliterated” is one heck of a claim to make within *hours* of a strike on complicated underground facilities. We either have exquisite BDA resources in place, which is possible, or it’s a wishful claim made to sound big, which seems more likely.
Trump said US strikes on Iran’s main nuclear facilities had “completely and totally obliterated” them, and threatened further military action if Tehran did not make peace with Israel
So weird. Dropping in with no knowledge or understanding of the problem he tried to solve, or any real plan to do it & it spectacularly backfired. Weird.
Elon Musk said in an interview that slashing the size of federal government proved far tougher than he expected and lamented the intense criticism leveled at the U.S. DOGE Service, which he has led. wapo.st/4kFrCY1

The only fair way to handle this is to appoint a team of teenagers to tear this company limb from limb until we find out what kind of financial damage they are hiding and where
People would do well to remember how Hearst used his newspaper empire to attack his enemies.
Scoop: After the LA Times published a piece about Elon Musk that carried a headline owner Patrick Soon-Shiong didn't like, a new rule was implemented: Prior to publishing opinion stories, headlines must be emailed to Soon-Shiong, where he can then choose to weigh in. www.status.news/p/los-angele...
This is the cost of war. If we're going to send people into harm's way, we need to care for them after. This is something Trump and Musk, who have never served anything, do not understand. It's also callous to say veterans receive "absurdly generous" benefits. Tell an IED victim they get too much.
Insane article. The vast majority of this increase is because we were exposed to burn pits in Iraq and Afghanistan. It’s our generation’s agent orange. As a burn pit veteran myself, the economist is absolutely wrong here. My guess is there were no burn pit vets on the board that wrote this

E. Coli Carrots & Book Pirates. Is this, a) A new Smashing Pumpkins album or b) a description of my afternoon.
My first book took me years to write--it's still unpublished--the second about 9 months. Now, I've got it down to 3-5 months for a first draft, plus 2-3 for revision. That's a faster pace than I'd like, but it's what the market demands these days.
I shipped my 14th novel yesterday. A difficult book to write & I suspect lot of work to do in revision. An editor once told me, if its kicking your ass, you're probably onto something.
HI Everyone! I'm a crime and spy fiction author. If you like good books, good wine and democracy, we can be friends. Happy to be here with fellow twitter refugees. Cheers!
