Brooklyn elected official getting things done. Working Families Party endorsed.

Started this week at the preliminary budget hearing for the Committee on Sanitation and Solid Waste Management. I was proud to hear about the progress in our composting program. Commissioner Lojan reports that the program has reached its highest compost collection tonnage to date.

Our office heat isn't working today so we had to close early. We're fully available remotely—call us at (718) 499-1090 or email district39@council.nyc.gov. If your heat isn't working, file a 311 complaint at portal.311.nyc.gov, and let us know!

Loved spending time with PS 179 5th graders for Career Day! Growing up in Kensington and returning to share my story––and what it means to serve as their Council Member––is an honor. I hope they know the sky’s the limit. You can be from here and make it anywhere.

I was delighted to present CB7 District Manager Jeremy Laufer with a proclamation thanking him for his 25 years of service to the community! Jeremy has led one of the most engaged and effective CB’s in NYC with integrity, dedication, and commitment that has shaped our neighborhoods.

Section 3 is an essential program that ensures low income workers are being hired for federal contracts in their own neighborhood. Last wee we launched the Gowanus Model Section 3 Initiative in partnership with the National Institute for Section 3 Empowerment (NISE).

Loved getting to watch kids at PS 230 make digital beats through LEAP (Learning through an Expanded Arts Program)’s inclusion-funded afterschool digital music production program. I’m proud to fund this music program that helps kids create together and have fun! 🎶

ICE snatched a NYC Council staffer following the law—going to a routine immigration appointment. This is an attack on due process, on our city, and on every immigrant here. Release them now.

Loved joining Dances for a Variable Population at the Eileen Dugan Senior Center for Dances for Seniors! 💃🏾This program allows arts, movement, and community care to support physical health, mental well-being, and joy. Proud to champion D39 seniors and ensure community support.

So happy to host two wonderful toy giveaways in our NYCHA community this weekend, at Wyckoff Gardens and at the new and finally open Gowanus Houses Community Center! Nothing better than spending the holiday season in community and spreading love and joy ❤️

My colleague Vickie Paladino continues to dehumanize the over 1 million Muslim New Yorkers that the NYC Council represents. It is time that the Council takes action and expels her. We cannot allow such flagrant racism within our legislative body. My full remarks:

Stated thread! 🧵 At today’s NYC Council Stated meeting, we passed two crucial bills that protect gig workers—-both Deliveristas and Uber & Lyft drivers. Although these workers are often full time, apps use “gig” status to get around our basic labor protections.

I proudly rallied with the NYC Council Union against unjust firings. Before being elected, I served as a Council staffer, and I know firsthand how essential staff are to making city government work for New Yorkers. Workers deserve dignity, due process, and full respect for their contract.

I was proud to join Our Time at the Tax the Rich field kickoff — organizing to advance Zohran Mamdani’s bold vision for an affordable New York. By taxing the ultra-wealthy and big corporations, we can fund free universal childcare and protect New Yorkers from federal cuts.
