Leila Sales suffers for her art. Well, it's not really art. But it's something. And she suffers. Author, editor, eater of chocolate. My newest book, THE MUSEUM OF LOST AND FOUND, is out now! https://linktr.ee/leilasalesbooks

This is so, so dumb and shortsighted of Vox. I read pretty much everything Constance writes. She's a brilliant writer and big-picture thinker who gives popular culture the analysis it deserves. Her inbox had better be full of job offers, stat.

Well, I have been laid off from Vox after 10 years there. It has been the honor and the privilege of a lifetime to get to work with such brilliant people for so long.

The most impressive thing about the band Train is that they invented time travel, all so that they could journey from the year 2009 into the year 2026, where an A.I. could write the song "Hey Soul Sister" for them.

An important thing to know about me is that I subscribe to a newsletter that exclusively lists upcoming auctions for arcades shuttering in the state of Texas. That is how committed I am to someday owning a MegaTouch.

I don’t care whether people drink, but I care very much about the continued existence of nightclubs, which rely almost entirely on alcohol sales. Folks will gladly pay $5 cover + $40 for drinks. But if you ask them to pay $45 at the door, nobody’s coming. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/01/s...

Yes, there are many benefits of cutting back. But bars are closing. Jobs are going away. And a way of being together can feel harder to find.

I dearly wish that people all across the board would be less credulous on social media. Just somebody said something in an Instagram Reel and they sounded really strident about it, that doesn't mean it's true.

Complaining about transit hassles is boring, so I’m going to do it here, where few people follow me and they can all scroll right past: I’ve been waiting at a bus stop for 10 minutes. Google Maps said the bus would be coming in 3 min. Then 2 min. Then 1 min. Then it said that it departed 1 min ago.

My cats' daily schedule: 9-12: Act aggressively adorable in the hopes that this behavior might lead to receiving lunch 12-12:01: Gulp down lunch with disturbingly manic enthusiasm 12:01-12:02: Brush against my legs, which I assume means "thanks" 12:02-6: Disappear completely

I don't aspire to be a household name. I just want to be famous enough that, should I ever suffer an unforeseen medical crisis, enough people will donate to my GoFundMe that I won't be left with crippling debt.
