The reporting on this study is, however, completely flawed. Notice how all but one of the headlines below claims that the prevalence simply applies to *all players*, alive or dead. That claim is never made in the BMJ article because that’s not what is being studied.

This is an important and damning study: at least 25% of *all* NFL players who died between 2016-2021 had CTE, most with advanced cases. More than *90%* of the brains examined had CTE. The actual prevalence is likely way higher than 25%. This sport is not morally sustainable.

Conclusions At minimum, nearly a quarter of all former NFL players who died during 2016-21 had CTE neuropathology at death. Among NFL player brain donors, dementia diagnosed based on records before death was common and associated with stage IV CTE.

Accepting the MAGA premise (using MAGA language) that ideas from 2015-2023 about justice are ‘crazy’ (literally the characterization) is a complete capitulation. Be more materialist. Yes. Don’t be liberal. But don’t kid yourself that being ‘anti-woke’ is anything but fascist.

Much better words exist to describe what is being called “Woke 1” and “Woke 2.” The problem opaquely indexed in this discourse is liberal vs. materialist politics. Anti-racism/gender justice are bad *if* (and only if) they are too *liberal*, not *because* they are anti-racism/gender justice.

AOC: I have a local city councilman that has this saying: Woke 1 was crazy…. I think that during especially during covid, I think that the doors were really open in trying to entertain any and every policy that was going to get us to a better place. And I actually think that the discussions that had that were had in that time were quite fruitful. I think that when we talk about crime today, it's fundamentally different than the way that we talked about crime in bringing crime down. Right. And I think that we all share in the goals of having as low a crime rate as possible. I think that, you know, during lockdown, of course, rhetoric in that time is not rhetoric that we would use today. And I'm grateful that these candidates have the opportunity to present who they are to their electorate and what they're campaigning on in this moment
