the existing indie comics culture is, in large parts, built upon prestige and legitimacy-seeking and career-building, upon gatekeeping and pretension and tastemaking and curation. i'm not saying any of this is evil. but there is a reason why the community remains niche while comiket looks like this
Some guy at the train station came up and complemented my maxi skirt and said "it's good to see girls in modest long skirts and dresses." I just gave a big laugh and said "there's nothing modest about me, it's just comfy" anyway I wore my tits out bikini that night.

Not to soap box about this but i feel that ppl in the english indie comics space should hear it: creating doujinshi/self published comics without the stamp of a prestigious fair or an indie publisher does not make you any less of a comic artist. drawing comics makes you a comic artist.
