I'm disappointed, and a bit shocked, by how many people swallowed Prof. Cleves accusations w/o even reading either book, let alone both, to see if this was valid. I've read both. I've gone over the footnotes & citations. The charges are NOT valid.

Thank you. I'd just like to add, if you are interested but haven't read book1, it's on KU now. Also, people who sign up and join my Discord can ask for a review copy of book 1. Info on the signup form.

It’s worth reading the entire account here. I understand why its nice to type in a few words and have a fantasy language created for you but if you’re asking me to invest in a creative act, whether that is buying it or having an emotional connection to it, I’m going to need you to do the actual work

A week ago at Dragoncon I met Richard Garriott at a panel about his new Ultima game. Long story short he wants to use AI. He already has for concept art and ChatGPT generated fantasy language. I wrote an account with the hope that this could spread to the right people. Please pass this along.

If you're sacrificing trans votes and goodwill because you think it will be an overall political gain, you can't expect to do that and still have our votes and goodwill. You sacrificed those, remember?

Folks, I could really use some more patrons. Over on Patreon I post a bunch of stuff and I will even launch a new serial there if I can get my numbers up by the end of October? Support a spicy indie author and have some fun. Details: www.patreon.com/ceci...

A graphic showing some books and the words Patrons get serial fiction, bonus scenes, newsletters, party invites, sneak peaks. I get to keep writing.

I listened to the entire Yankees Mets archived game audio from Friday while driving to NYC and I did not drive off the road (or do much other than roll my eyes a bit) during the 45 minutes of 9-11 pregame ceremonies so I think maybe after 25 years my 9-11 PTSD is gone? Or at least way smaller?

Once again this isn't like gay marriage. We're not asking for something new. We're asking not to lose rights we've had for decades. When Dems say they agree with enacting new restrictions on trans people, that's a betrayal. They are actively going out of their way to harm trans people.

out it goes: my long post about Rachel Hope Cleves's claim that Tillie Walden plagiarised her book. It's long because Cleves's claim is much, much more bizarre than it looked on first reading. I'm not going to bury the lede here. Cleves's claim does not hold up. buttondown.com/thene/archiv...

stick a pin in this metaphor

…because these covers are a microcosm of the entire conflict; Walden's book is mostly built on writing and other objects left by Sylvia Drake, Charity Bryant, and others. Her work includes many elements from these records that Cleves does not refer to in her book, and many of her interpretations of those records are different from Cleves's interpretations, often intentionally so. In addition to her historical basis, Walden's book includes fictional dialogue and story elements that are original to her work, some of which are inspired by Walden's own life.

i am working on a very, very long blog post that could really have fit into a skeet: When someone posts that "this website/journal article/etc proves my dramatic claim!!!" and then does not link to the website, journal article, etc, it is because it does not in fact prove their dramatic claim.

I'm finally totting up all my Worldcon expenses and revenues and just discovering that something went wonky with Square... and it charged people both California sales tax AND Massachusetts. Which shouldn't even be able to happen...? I wonder what will happen when I'm in NJ next week... 👀

It’s so fucking stupid. It’s a verifiable fact that he was sitting in his office talking on the phone with radio shows and emphasizing that his building was now the tallest thanks to WTC collapsing. It’s not a “disputed account.” It’s an obvious easily provable lie and I hate how NYT phrases shit.

Trump told 9/11 families that he was rescued from the rubble of the World Trade Center -- an obvious and shocking lie. Here's how the New York Times reports it. This is like reporting George Wallace's "segregation forever" speech as "Governor speaks at inauguration. Some remarks controversial."

New York Times:
Trump Honors 9/11
Emergency Personnel in
Washington
President Trump awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously to a volunter firefighter who saved numerous people. He also added to a disputed account of his actions that day.

I recently discovered that Amazon now lets authors distribute ebooks to libraries and still keep the title in KDP, and now all my m/m books are available in Overdrive and Hoopla (and also various print retailers).
