Clara Bow is so wonderful in this movie (WINGS, 1927). Truly a living Betty Boop and a master of physical acting. If you're an animator, her movements and expressions are well worth studying.
Something you rarely see: Charles Schulz drawings of teenagers.
Cool concept art of Meg, by HERCULES co-director John Musker.
RIP Eva Marie Saint, such a wonderful actress and person, and one of our last links to the Golden Age of Hollywood. If you haven't seen her great performances in Kazan's ON THE WATERFRONT (1954) and Hitchcock's NORTH BY NORTHWEST (1959), you should.
Cool stop-motion ad from 1987 by David Sproxton at Aardman (a couple of years before Wallace & Gromit).
Born today in 1895: silent slapstick genius Buster Keaton, seen here in 1925's SEVEN CHANCES.
Model sheets from the classic UPA cartoon GERALD McBOING-BOING (1950), directed by Bobe Cannon and written by Dr. Seuss.
Charming puppets from the stop-motion Chinese short IF I'M WU SONG (1982), directed by Zhan Tong.
Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers showing why they were so great together in this funny number from 1936's FOLLOW THE FLEET. They do a great job making all of the meticulously rehearsed antics look spontaneous and off-the-cuff.
Any time I need inspiration, I open up my book of T. S. Sullivant's cartoons from the early 1900s. Just beautiful artwork.
Born today in 1912: the great Chuck Jones, master of big explosive cartoon gags and subtle little eyebrow wiggles. The best.
Nice drawing by Brazilian cartoonist J. Carlos.
This 1953 Woody Woodpecker scene resembles the gross-ups you see in REN & STIMPY and SPONGEBOB many years later.
RIP Peter Max, who defined the look of the '60s with his psychedelic artwork.
Amazing Tic Tac commercial from 1976, by the great Richard Williams (of WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT fame).
Early use of speech balloons from a 1797 political cartoon by James Gillray.
Funny Road Runner reference from ROCKO'S MODERN LIFE.
I had a great time writing this article about the most dangerous and memorable Acme products from the Road Runner cartoons to celebrate the release of COYOTE VS. ACME. Check it out! www.cartoonbrew.com/cartoon-stud...
Just saw COYOTE VS. ACME. Such a great tribute to my favorite cartoons, full of terrific gags and heart. The hand-drawn animated bits are excellent. I'm SO glad this was saved from being shelved forever. Go see it!
A clip I hadn't seen: Looney Tunes director Chuck Jones talking about how Warner Bros. destroyed the original drawings and cels from the classic cartoons. A truly insane crime against art.
