if you get gifts from billionaires so that you can try and convince people with less money than you to pay full price for those things and you've never had "dirty looks" before you attached a corporation state surveillance device to your face, congratulations, you won, and i don't feel bad for you.

from https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2026/aug/09/i-kept-catching-people-giving-me-dirty-looks-the-backlash-against-meta-smart-glasses
Deena Lang, a parenting influencer, first got her hands on a pair of the glasses from Meta. “I didn’t really know what they were capable of,” she says, but she thought they could be a cool gadget for her son. This was especially true as the family were heading to Europe for a trip and the glasses could, very usefully, translate foreign text live.

But things took a turn when Lang wore them to a cooking class. After looking at the footage she had captured, she says she was “horrified because I just kept catching people giving me dirty looks or side-eye. For me, that was a real awakening.” She posted the footage to her 110,000 followers on Instagram with faces blurred out to act as a “cautionary tale”. She was soon flooded with comments criticising the glasses.

the person i was slowwwwly drawing a 20 page comic book for the past two years wants to sell them at $17.99, which an estimate $4.50 printing cost, and i worry that 17.99 is a lot even with shipping covered for a book that small. do you have any experience with that sort of thing?

nothing makes me want to stick my face in a fire like having laser-proof red hair but i suspect that would be the only part that would grow back. no amount of deliberate or accidental abuse can inhibit it

i was trying to explain to my mother that dynasty warriors origins is a reboot and dynasty warriors 3 is a remake but i failed because i can't personally tell the difference. even 2001 dynasty warriors 3 was already a remake of 2000's dynasty warriors 2.

i don't understand how i suddenly get page follows on the artfight site days or weeks after it ends and it is no longer possible to post images. and then i look at the pages and they spend more time customizing their profiles than drawing stuff but have RECEIVED over a hundred pieces.

january: verizon owns us now but the only changes will be GOOD, your service and what you pay will stay the same! august: in order for your service to stay the same we are "updating" the price by ten additional dollars

Hi Bimshwel,

We're excited to announce that Frontier is joining the Verizon family. Now, as a valued Frontier Fiber and Verizon mobile customer, you’re probably wondering what this means for you.

The short answer? Good things — and rest assured, nothing about your current service is changing.

The reliable Frontier experience you count on every day will continue without disruptions and your plan will remain the same — that's the same great service and customer support, plus no changes to your bill or how you pay. What is changing is your exclusive access to new services, savings and value you can't get anywhere else. frontier email from a few minutes ago saying
Hi Bimshwel,

We know how important a fast, reliable internet connection is for work, school, and staying connected with the people who matter most. As with other companies, our costs of providing these services have risen due to increased network, maintenance, and service expenses.

To continue delivering the quality and innovation you expect, we need to make an adjustment to our pricing. Beginning next month, your monthly internet price will increase up to $10.

We’re committed to providing the best value and transparency while ensuring you have access to the latest technology and the most reliable connection. If you have any questions, we’re always here to help.

i do not understand why "cash-strapped fans" are willingly buying the most expensive and niche version of new music products. I always understood vinyl records after the 1980s as a luxury fad, almost a scam in itself. Making it a full scam is still completely unethical and typical of 2026 capitalism

from https://www.theguardian.com/music/2026/aug/04/a-pressing-issue-vinyl-albums-riddled-with-mistakes-charli-xcx-olivia-rodrigo
It’s the year’s worst pop trend: fans paying the highest price to pre-order what is ostensibly the most desirable, collectible or elaborate edition of an album are instead receiving incomplete or unpolished versions of the music.

In Raye’s case, the singer tried to offer a positive spin, joking to Zane Lowe that the almost-finished vinyl could become a collectible. But cash-strapped fans aren’t seeing the funny side. “It’s fair to assume when you’re buying a record that it’s the final recording,” wrote one person on Reddit, in a comment typical of dozens posted to the site. “I ride for Charli, I love her as an artist, but a bait-and-switch isn’t cool.”

my biggest problem with modern film making is trying to systematically prevent critics from trying to seem smarter than the movie; not putting anything silly or unusual in the film without pointing out that it is silly. Presumably that is interesting to some viewers but i am never going to enjoy it.

if I ever taught film criticism lesson one would be “you being smarter than the movie is not interesting to anyone”

i do not understand the fundamental assumed appeal of "ai assistant"s because whenever i am using a program and start to feel like it is doing whatever it feels like (because my hands are on the keyboard irregularly perhaps and i get a prolonged series of incorrect actions), that is infuriating

i keep thinking of the moron who spent all his money and endured personal injury to build a statue of someone he dislikes because he assumed he could sell the thing. i have so many people like that in my life, who think creativity only has value if it homages what it is presumed popular. depressing

from https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jul/20/sculptor-charlie-kirk-statue-new-york
Furnari said he did not agree with Kirk on “certain issues”.

“I wasn’t a fan of Charlie,” he said. “Like one thing that I couldn’t stand about him while he was alive [was] when he was talking about Palestine. [Kirk would say]: ‘Oh no, Palestine doesn’t exist.’ I thought: ‘Well, this guy must be out of his mind.’”

Instead, Furnari said he made the statue in an effort to “glorify and to exercise the first amendment, this freedom of speech” – although at points during the conversation, Furnari also said he made it to support Charlie Kirk’s wife; to “glorify democracy”; and to “commemorate a person”.
