Magyar posted on FB saying that Orban called and congratulated. This is it. It's over.🇭🇺 Tisza won and will likely get a supermajority. And with large legitimacy comes large responsibility.

With 66% at 3pm, turnout is still on track for a massive record and could reach 80%. There's a lot of discussion about who benefits from this -- and the extreme right Mi Hazank is a v likely loser. But at this point, it's only a few more hours to go!
The leading candidate in the upcoming Bulgarian parliamentary election, Rumen Radev is an Orban admirer who shares the pro-Ru stance hidden behind a "peace, stability, and prosperity" narrative. If Orban loses big tomorrow, Radev's fortunes will dim a bit 🤞 eutoday.net/bulgarias-el...

Reposting this thread for one last time. Early morning participation is already at record high, on track for a record turnout. Happy voting! 🇭🇺
Two of the latest polls, from previously quite accurate pollsters, show a Tisza lead of ~20pp in Hungary. But can the opposition really win? Why is Orban on the backfoot? And what happens after April 12? 🇭🇺Hungary elections thread 🧵

In his Orban-endorsement visit, the Vice President of the USA says that the EU planted the seeds of the Ukraine war when EU leaders decided they were going for a clean energy transition. Does he know that Hungary has become a global leader in solar energy adoption, mostly driven by govt subsidies?
The latest in the string of unreal but not unsurprising revelations. We have long known that Hungary's foreign policy is aligned with Russia's but we are just seeing the depth of it. Partly why the April 12 vote is more important for the EU than before bsky.app/profile/szab...
🔎NEW INVESTIGATION: The hotline between FM Péter Szijjártó and Sergey Lavrov gives Russia strategic insight into key EU matters. Evidence, including a leaked phone call recording shows Hungary’s FM acted for the Kremlin, pushing to delist sanctioned Russians, with Slovak support.

The problem is not speed but direction. Two-speed implies that everyone is moving in the same direction, but at a different pace. That is not the case. “Two-speed Europe” sounds nice but it creates more problems than it solves. What we need is a clear, explicit political choice for a strong Europe.

A guaranteed no-go because of the symbolism— a repeat of the 1994 betrayal, hosted by the most anti-Ukrainian European leader who eyes pieces of Ukraine. A reminder that Trump’s « peacemaking » skews heavily towards Ru. Also, there will likely be no Pu-Zelensky meeting anywhere.
Budapest? Not everyone may remember this, but in 1994 Ukraine already got assurances of territorial integrity from the US, Russia and the UK. In Budapest. Maybe I’m superstitious, but this time I would try to find another place.
The frontlines in Donbas are strategically the same for 2yrs now. Ru can’t conquer it. If Ru truly cared about control of Donbas only, it would have proposed “land for peace” 2yrs ago. “We just want Donbas” is the new version of “we just want Crimea” and it’s the exact same bald-faced lie.
We are looking for 1–2 postdoctoral researchers to join the project “Political Violence in Democracies”, led by @hannefjelde.bsky.social 📌 Full-time, 2-year postdoctoral position 📆 Start Date: Dec 1, (or by agreement) 📍 Location: Uppsala ⏳ Apply by: Oct 1 Read more: www.uu.se/en/about-uu/...
Western media should say more often and more explicitly that Ru's main summer offensive FAILED. It's important context for the upcoming negotiations. Ru is failing and thus its maximalist demands on Ukraine should not be taken seriously. www.wsj.com/world/ukrain...
