tony romm@tonyromm.bsky.social · 2mo agoNew: The Trump admin said it intends to appeal an April court order that requires it to refund all of the tariffs collected under the slate of duties declared illegal by the Supreme Court. In short, the gov has said it can't/won't do this for all of the tariffs automatically.
I’m proud of the work I did as an AUSA, and I say this with complete sincerity: if you’re an AUSA, and a decent person, who cares about your oath, get out. Get out now without destroying your reputation. A DoJ run to Trumpist specifications is corrupt and incompetent. The stink will stick on you.

/4 Anyway, a long-time theme of Trumpism, and an increasingly common theme of the Republican Party, is that violence is justified against protesters because protesters are evil. It’s a deeply foul, thuggish, un-American sentiment.
DOJ's recent 6th Circuit filing misspelled: Voters as “Votors” Emergency as "Emeregency" United States as "United Staes" And, it included a non-party in the caption. These are the people who want access to your sensitive voting records and who my team fights in court every day.
This answer - from one of the president’s key economic advisors - is disgraceful. And, fwiw, the number for tariff pass through is closer to 94-96 percent

The charges against Don Lemon are ridiculous. He’s a target because he’s black, because he’s media, and because he’s a Trump critic, and because Trump and his minions cannot accept any dissent. It’s deeply pathetic, unamerican, and lawless.
I get tired of saying it, but I’ll say it again: the nature of oppression in America is that they workshop it first on Black, Latino, Asian & Native people. But it is always, in the end, coming for everyone.

I heard someone say it was “extreme” to demand the names of the ICE agents who murdered Alex Pretti. No. Demanding government disclosure of the names of government agents when they kill Americans is moderate. Wanting to read the names off the plaque at a mass grave would be, perhaps, extreme.
The official policy of the government of the United States of America is that they will murder anyone they want, that they will tell any lie necessary to justify that murder, and that no one who resists them has any rights they are bound to respect. /1
Also, may I say that I don’t agree with people saying ICE and CBP need “more training.” They’re doing exactly what this administration has trained them to—impose a reign of fear in blue cities. They don’t need more training. They need to be ripped up root and branch.

Sure seems like ICE is gping into a violence spiral in MN. They act out, people monitor and protest, they get madder and more agitated, people monitor and protest more. They‘re going to kill more people, administration’s going to congratulate and encourage more, they’re gonna kill MORE people.
It would take a two-word amendment to 42 U.S.C. § 1983 to subject ICE agents and other federal law enforcement officers to the same liability for constitutional violations that local and state officers currently face. If Congress actually cared about what it's seeing, it could pass that overnight.
/7 Prosecuting a cop for misconduct, let alone murder, is the hardest prosecution you can do in America. Thanks to America’s culture it’s like trying to convict a fucking kitten for high treason. It’s like trying to convict Jesus. You just cannot rush over confidently into that.
More people are going to be murdered by ICE. It’s clear. The tactics ensure it, ICE is getting more furious and being disagreed with or resisted in any way, the verminous administration supports them and has shown they will tell any lie to support ICE murdering people. /1
