This a core problem with Rails that won't be solved. The maintainer doesn't believe this is a real problem and the community either ridicules attempts to fix it or gets stuck in endless debates about code organization. There are good ideas out there - interested in hearing Brandon's…

The more I work in Rails the more I'm convinced ActiveRecord is actively harmful at scale, and at no point does it create a designated off ramp to help teams isolate their domains successfully. Telling folks to learn the framework better is at best a cop out and at worst engineering malpractice.

I often get frustrated when copy-pasting commands from a website into my Nushell terminal, especially with those line-escaping backslashes... Here is a little snippet I found to solve that issue. Read more on my blog: moskitohero.com/post/2026-07... #nushell #bash #shell #snippet

for years, I have been using "draw the bike" as a metaphor for "attempt to recreate your knowledge thereby revealing invisible lack of understanding". TIL there was a paper about it

Et surtout, don't look up!

“My company did layoffs a few weeks ago. The main metric for productivity is AI usage (% of PRs with AI assistance) and PR count per week. People are burnt out after layoffs, but they don’t want to be next so they are doing what’s requested: use AI, inflate PR count….” - from an eng at this place

We see that AI tools amplify good engineering cultures, and bad. So it is rational to better the engineering culture at any and all organizations. Good (engineering) middle management is pretty good at doing this. So why are so many companies gutting middle management, and now?

Everything from make-believe dreams of Mars colonization to mind uploading to whatever the hell people think AI is going to do as a supplantation of humanity are not meant to be a widely available future for humanity. They are an escape pod for the elite from the burning wreckage of the Earth.
