What is the point of fantasy if it won't bewitch the reader or push the player into wandering through truly wondrous places? If it won't open your eyes to new ways of living together, especially at a time when we need that the most? A cruel fate for fantasy to be so dull, so horribly stagnant.
side note: a truly irresponsible amount of the modern world relies on smth called FoxPro continuing to work (it was fully discontinued in 2007 & only like 5 people still alive know how to code it—i know bcz i've had to call 2 of them, both retired for 10+ yrs, to help fix an intractable bug).
tangentially related fun fact: literally all global travel (yknow airplanes, trains, hotels, etc) happens bcz of things called GDSs, worked by travel agents (who still exist btw). 1st GDS to introduce a GUI did so in 2010. agents threw a riot. vast majority of GDS work's still done by text today.
