Gray snub-nosed monkeys (Rhinopithecus brelichi) are endemic to China's Wuling Mountains. A single population of just 200 mature individuals remains wild. Threatened by habitat disturbances, limited distribution, and lack of genetic diversity. Critically Endangered. Photo courtesy of Cyril Grueter.

Roloway monkeys (Cercopithecus roloway) thrive in the forest canopy. They do not adapt to habitat disturbances. Endemic to Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana. Already eradicated from most of their range. Uncontrolled hunting and habitat loss have taken 80% of their population. Critically Endangered.

Moustached guenons (Cercopithecus cephus) are native to a broad and diverse range in equatorial West Africa. They associate with other guenon species for safety in numbers. Widespread and common in Gabon and northern Congo, but under threat from hunting in most of their range. Least Concern.

Masked titis (Callicebus personatus), also called Atlantic titis, are endemic to southeastern Brazil, where only 5-10% of undisturbed forest remains intact. Habitat loss forces them to adapt to disturbed forests. Threatened by deforestation, forest fragmentation, and urbanization. Vulnerable.

Weasel sportive lemurs (Lepilemur mustelinus), also called greater sportive lemurs, are endemic to eastern Madagascar. They comfortably co-exist with other sportive lemur species and live sympatrically with woolly lemurs. Threatened by habitat loss, habitat degradation, and hunting. Vulnerable.

Yes, you woke me up and no, I will not be taking any more questions! The red-tailed sportive lemur lives in the dry lowland forests and bush of central coastal and western Madagascar and as with every sportive lemur species, you won't catch one out during daylight hours! 📷️: Frank Vassen

Ring-tailed lemurs (Lemur catta) are native to southeastern Madagascar. Much of their time is spent foraging on the ground, tails held high. They sleep huddled together in large groups, their iconic tails curled up over their shoulders. Threatened by habitat loss and hunting. Endangered.

Black crested mangabeys (Lophocebus aterrimus) are endemic to DR Congo. Early morning foragers, their diet consists largely of fruits and seeds. Because of their large size, they are targeted for the bushmeat trade. Threatened by unregulated hunting and habitat loss. Vulnerable.

Tapanuli orangutans (Pongo tapanuliensis) are confined to the mountainous Batang Toru region of Sumatra. Recognized as a distinct species in late 2017. Considered the most ancient of the three orangutan species. Threatened by habitat conversion, forest fragmentation, and illegal killing.

Black-capped capuchins (Sapajus apella) are native to Bolivia, Colombia, French Guiana, Ecuador, Guyana, Brazil, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela. They craft rocks and sticks into tools to open nut shells. Sometimes females pelt rocks at males to capture their attention—also tool use. Widespread.
