been trying out a similar thing at runtime! though its more of an inverse hull method here...same principle though!
Xavier@xavierck.com · 5mo agoFun fact: They did this exact same thing in 3D with the characters in Vagrant Story All you have to do is duplicate the model, offset it by a few onscreen pixels, and set it to fullbright/tinted. The lit character model hides the polygons of the secondary mesh, giving a nice rim light

i dont think its anything too crazy but here, topology matters a lot less for higher poly lol but still matters obviously. it was box modeled, i think i used subdiv at first and then applied and went in and cleaned up the shapes and some such
