olive martini 🍸@0livemartini.bsky.social · 4w agoRomance authors of yesteryear were so much more concerned with making interesting characters with flaws that the reader had a grapple with, and genuinely steamy scenes that fell deserved and emotionally cathartic, bc what was gonna happen, someone would write into romantic times and cancel them?
Not a complete equivalent but I feel like so many romance authors of today try so hard to depict “healthy” relationships with NO “problematic” aspects that they forget to make their stories Good.
