If this is implemented w/o watering down, it would be the most comprehensive trade restriction with Israel any country has put up so far. It would ban not just import of settler goods (wine, dates, etc) but ban both import and export of services, aka bank transactions, construction tenders, tourism.

After nearly two years of refusing to abide by the bare minimum of international law, the Labour-led British government confirmed this morning that it is working to implement a comprehensive ban on trade with the illegal Israeli settlement enterprise. It will cover both goods and services.

A big part of the reason why the 1SS has been gathering more support in recent years is that Israeli political parties across the spectrum are all adamant that they will never give up control of the Territories, and people believe them, at which point the logical next step is to demand equality.

I mean I think a key difference is that at least a two state solution, however difficult to achieve, does not poll 60 points underwater across the region, nor require a nuclear-armed state be dispossessed of its authority

The focus, as usual, will be on trans athletes here to get buy in from everyone but the real impact will be on all female athletes and will disproportionately fall on intersex athletes. It's going to be a horror show. I expect legal challenges will eventually overturn this but it will take decades.

There are going to be a lot of intersex cis women, especially from the global south, who will be ruled ineligible and then subjected to terrible discrimination or worse in their home countries. Prior sex testing regimes have resulted in suicides and ruined lives.

The police withhold identities in BC to be able to notify the next of kin and don't often publish the names of teenage mass shooters to not amplify or promote copycat attacks. Didn't stop an elected official from using a tragedy to attack LGBTQ+ people

Within hours, we already had an elected official—B.C. MLA Tara Armstrong—blaming the Tumbler Ridge school shooting on gender-affirming care.

Canada has an opportunity to build digital infrastructure that serves the public interest rather than private monopolies. Without this shift, cost-of-living pressures will persist while corporate concentration deepens and profits remain concentrated among the rich and powerful.

NEW: The Israeli military today accepted the Gaza Health Ministry's estimate of 70,000+ killed. But in 2024, 62 Dems joined 207 Republicans to ban the State Dept. from citing the Ministry's stats. Now, even Israel accepts them — perhaps because they realize what is feared: the toll is even higher.

What stage of power consolidation is it when the priests are telling the common people to write condemnations of you on the walls of the town squares at night

The Republican position now appears to be that you have a constitutional right to openly carry a gun in public, unless you do so while expressing a view that the government dislikes, in which case the secret police can shoot you to death on the spot.

Minneapolis police chief Brian O'Hara says that the victim was a 37-year-old white man and US citizen with no criminal record and that he was a legally permitted gun owner.
