Apparently Bluesky people have no interest in this kind of analysis, since it got zero response, but it pretty much nails a major problem I have with this media platform, namely, the cult-like exclusiveness.

You choose the accounts you follow on Bsky. That's one filter. They choose the Twitter posts they share here. That's a second filter. If people on here then scream, "Don't share Twitter posts!!" that's effectively a ban.

Look closely at that ham radio antenna I posted yesterday and you can see birds on it. These are not birds indigenous to Japan but are rose-ringed parakeets, also known as ring-necked parakeets, which escaped from cages and settled in Tokyo many years ago.

Love these ham radio antenna arrays. Takes me all the way back to age 14, when I built a shortwave radio and strung an antenna from my room to a tree in our backyard. (This was taken in Musashino-shi near Midori-cho.)

A house with ham radio antennas on the roof. Those for receiving are on a tower that can be rotated remotely. There are also straight poles for transmission.

Today in Japan weather news: New all-time high temperature records in 59 locations 40C or above in 7 locations (mostly in the Kumamoto disaster zone) 35C or above in 227 locations Tokyo, meanwhile, barely got above 25C

Japan has had several 40°C days this summer, but today's in 日田 (Hita), Oita was the first ever 40°C day in all of Kyushu. The 38.7°C in 肝付前田 (Kimotsuki Maeda) was the hottest day ever in Kagoshima. Fukuoka Prefecture also had two all-time records today. 暑いですね

The Kavalan Distillery in Taiwan, winner of multiple awards, offers these malt samples only to visitors. My wonderful son-in-law gave me these, which he got from a colleague. Looking forward to tasting them individually and in blends. #whisky

Asking people to pass around a ball without using their hands makes for a good party game, but a lousy sport. Add in the need to adjudicate the inevitable human entanglements and selectively hand out red cards, and the result is the mess you saw if you wasted your time watching the world cup.

Saw this, and recalled the rude welcome Pielke Jr. received when he joined Bluesky. He was put on block lists, as were his followers, and effectively driven away. Yet what he said is now accepted wisdom. No wonder Bluesky remains such a niche platform. Self-important but with minimal impact.

I like what this account does here, putting (TS) after 台風 to show that it's a tropical storm, well short of typhoon strength. No. 7 has also dropped below typhoon strength. So no, Japan is not being hit by double typhoons, though we can expect lots of rain from these storms and the monsoon front.
